    3. excerpts from an obituary in the "Western Christian Adovocate", Sept. 19, 1834: John Herran, the subject of the following notice, was a man of piety and deep devotion to God, who finished his earthly course in Clermont County, Ohio, in the 73rd year of his age, in full hope of a blissful immortality beyond the grave. ... The following I received from his widow and children, in a note requesting me to attend the funeral, viz: "His parents were strict Presbyterians, and he became a member of that church about the 20th year of his age; and yet, not withstanding he was a Presbyterian in the 28th year of his age, he embraced religion and united with the European Wesleyan Methodists also, and continued a member of their society until he embarked for the United States of America, which was about his 33rd year. After his arrival in this country he joined the Methodist Episcopal church, in which he ever after continued a member, firmly believing the doctrines of the gospel, and a life truly devoted to his Creator. He was among the first Methodists in Lancaster County, PA.. where he had charge of a class 15 years, and often preached in his own house, until he emigrated to Ohio. ... it pleased his heavenly Father, on the 19th of July, 1833 to call him home to glory. ...
