hello to the List, My gggg grandfather,Conrad Luther married Elizabeth Barth/Bard of Hempfield at the First Reformed Church,Lancaster,Pa, 10 Dec 1789.They had five children born in Lancaster county. He was transported to America by the British as a Hessian mercenary sometime between 1776 and 1778.It has been verified that he deserted the British/Hessian forces in New Jersey in 1778.On November 10,1782 he signed by mark the oath of Allegiance to the state of Pa. there are a # of things I am searching for. Elizabeth's parents. The church records don't seem to show any relatives. What about the marriage license?Would the church be the only ones that know?I did check, did not find. Where could I find more information on Conrad during his military career So,I hope someone can help guide me in the right direction. Any help would be appreicated thank you John Bauman York,Pa
You want to check out the Johan Schwalm Historical Association at http://pages.prodigy.net/halschwalm/jshalink.html They have lists of soldiers on their web page. In addition lists of soldiers have been in Pa. History and other sources. Also a google search for "Hessians Soldiers" should turn up something. To learn about his military career in the U.S. you need to identify what unit he was in and then track that unit. Its unlikely that he will be identified by name in any sources. Good luck.
