    3. Hi Nancy, If your confident this ancestor attended Brickerville Academy then there is a good chance he lived within three or four miles of Brickerville. It took about an hour to walk or ride a horse three or four miles and its likely he wouldn't have spent more than an hour going to school each day, he probably lived much closer. If you know when this person was born then check the index to the federal census after their birth, to see where people with that name lived around Brickerville. Geography is an important clue when doing genealogy, people didn't move around much when the means of transportation was walking or riding a horse. If you know who he married and his wife's maiden name then you can check the census for both names to further narrow the search. The important point is to constantly try to narrow the focus from Pennsylvania to Lancaster County to a township, that is a successful method. I never got that answer before. My grandfather was born at "Brubakers Mills" and since there are a number of those on the Lancaster County maps, I was hoping school info might give me a better idea of where he was born. School law was passed in 1835. There were lots of local schools at that time, run by teachers as a business, no public support. Most of these disappeared after the public school law was passed. One of my great great grandfather's operated a school in Philadelphia. One of the pieces of information is that his father andall of his brothers (one of which was my grandfather) attended the Brickerville Academy in Lancaster County. I can only assume this would be close to Brickerville but I can find no information. Does anyone have any idea where it may have been or what other name it may have gone by?
