    3. Joe, Thanks very much for checking on that for me! Does that book include Leacock? I found three items in the PA Gazette that refer to a servant named Hugh McLaughlin of Leacock during the time frame 1749-1774. Or perhaps servants would not be included in the listings? Thanks again, Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joseph E Wolfe" <joeedwolfe@juno.com> To: <PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 06, 2006 12:24 AM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] Tax Records > Tom: No McLaughlins etc in the 1750 tax inces ed. by Gary T. 3. Many thanks to all for your responses to my query. If Leacock is listed with the transcribed records, then evidently Hugh McLaughlin was not included. Here is one item from the PA Gazette that I was referring to: ITEM #28177 February 25, 1762 The Pennsylvania Gazette FORTY SHILLINGS Reward. RUN away, the 10th of this inst. February, from the Subscriber, living in Leacock, Lancaster County, an Irish Servant Man, named Hugh McLaughlin; he says he is 40 Years of Age, about 5 Feet 6 Inches high, a thick set Fellow, with grey Eyes, of a down look, short shorn grey Hair, and a large grey Beard; a very great and profane Talker; a Lover of Spirits, and a great Beggar and Chewer of Tobacco: Had on, when he went away, an old Felt Hat, red and white Worsted Cap, blue Cloth Jacket, striped Linsey Waistcoat, Tow Shirt, Leather Breeches, blue ribbed Stockings, and a Pair of remarkable old Shoes, with Buckles; one of the Shoes having near 50 Nails in the Soal of it, and the Buckles not Fellows. It is thought he is gone to some of the Furnaces to cut Wood, as he took an Ax with him. Whoever takes up and secures said Servant in any Goal, so that his Master may have him again, shall receive the above Reward, and reasonable Charges, paid by JOHN GIBBONS, N. B. All manner of Persons, Masters of Vessels, or others, are forbid carrying off, harbouring or concealing him, as they will answer the same at their Peril. Evidently this Hugh was quite the rascal and no doubt would have done his best to evade taxation if he was required to pay! I am trying to determine if he is the same Hugh McLaughlin who appears in Cumberland Co. in 1770. If anyone knows of other sources besides the tax records that might have information about him, I would be most appreciative. Tom

    3. I would be curious in the McLaughlin name. My children's grandmother was one. I know nothing and have been working on my family for them. Thomas McLaughlin m. Agnes Zelinsky my former mother-in-law was born in 1933. I know she had a son who served in Normandy so he was older. I don't know the ages of Tom and Agnes and never met him. Grandma McLaughlin died about 1986. My daughter was just little. We are from Akron Ohio Summit Co. I do not know but would place bets they came from PA. If anyone can locate that Zelinsky name it would be appreciated.
