    1. Re: David Hess & Martha Line & Rehm / Rehem / Ream of Conestoga Twp.
    2. Here is an update and answer to my own question to the group from 29 July 2006. I found an abstract for the will of a Christian Lein (N-1-295) Lancaster County Will Book. CHRISTIAN LEIN, written 14 Aug 1822, proven 7 Mar 1823 Conestoga Twp. yeoman. Children: Christian, Barbara, Nancy w/o Daniel Hess, Feronica w/o Melchior Brenneman, Magdalena w/o David Hess, Mary & Esther. Land (1) 75a Conestoga Twp. to son Christian (burial ground excepted); (2) other land TBS (but daughters have option to buy appraisement); (3) reference to land previously;y sold to son Christian. Ex. SON Christian, SIL Daniel Hess both of Conestoga Twp. Wit. Henry Christ, John Good, John Lein. Magdalena (aka Martha) is the wife of David Hess. Her brother Christian Lein [Line] (1781-1861) is the same Christian Lines Martha Hess is residing with in the 1850 and 1860 census for Conestoga Twp. The Daniel Hess (1784-1840) that was mentioned is the son of a John Hess (1743-1798) & Anna [Heiger?] of Conestoga Twp. David & Daniel Hess are 2nd cousins. In regards to the David Hess married to Martha Lein [Line], in looking at the census and tax records it appears he may have died before 1830. Frank W. Hess Enola, PA. -------------- Original message -------------- From: fhess518@comcast.net Looking for information on a David Hess who resided in Conestoga Township and married a Martha (possibly last name of Line) possibly the sister of a Christian Line. David Hess appears to have died before 1850, possibly even as early as 1840 or before. David might be the son of Christian Hess & Catharine Goghenour who resided in the southeastern end of Conestoga Twp close to Martic Twp (in what is now Pequea Twp.). If this is the same David Hess then he would have been born ca. 1785-1793. Martha Hess and some of her children are buried in Byerland Mennonite Cemetery in Pequea Twp. These may be some of the gravestones that had been moved from the original Byerland Mennonite Meeting House graveyard. No gravestone for David Hess has been found. Martha's gravestone is marked as; Martha Hess b: Dec 21, 1789; d: Sep 21,1866; age: 76y9m; David & Martha are believed to have had the following children: Fronica (Fanny) Hess, b- Jul 22 1807 d- Jun 8 1899, married on 8 Dec 1853 to Frederick William Rehm (1803-1856). Samuel Hess; b-1810; d-1852 Catharine Hess; b- Jul 12, 1812; d- Mar 2,1899 Esther Hess; b- ca 1820; d- Feb 6,1860; age: 39y9m16d; Christian Hess; b- May 28, 1822; d- Jan16,1846;age: --y--m22d; Martha Hess d: May 15,1842 [?]; age: 27y5m25d; Elizabeth Hess; b- ca 1830 Jan 5, 1815; d- Feb 8,1883 In anyone can add to this or confirm this please let me know.
