Thanks to all who sent suggestions on finding a list of old Lancaster townships. Another question please, would there be a map (or list) someplace of Lancaster sometime before 1750 that shows townships at that time? Preferably in the 1740s. Failing that, a map or list showing townships of Lancaster in the 1750s. Thanks again. Graham Louer
My last post sends you somewhere strange!! Go to the Lancaster County Historical Society home page - look under RESEARCH - DATABASES. Good day, My most used source for early Lancaster township maps is R. Thomas Mayhill's Abstracts of Lancaster County Deeds 1729-1770. The author includes five maps, including one prior to 1729; 1729, 1730-1749; and a modern map that shows the development of the townships. The author notes that all maps were reprinted with the permission of the Lancaster County Historical Society. I believe that the book is still in print and also on the shelf of any serious Pennyslvania research library.
