Oh, I'm so sorry; the subject led me to assume that we were discussing Pennsylvania. http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/land/rn20_landoffice.htm suggests that Virginia also used warrants, surveys, and patents. Perhaps other colonies/states did, too. I offer my apologies to anyone who was mislead by my post.
