I am looking for information on the parents of RICHARD POPE of this record and any of his children. It is believed that JOHN POPE was a brother as well as SAMUEL and his sisters were SARAH, ELIZABETH, and probably PRISCILLA. Samuel and John were members of the Warrington Monthly Meeting of Friends (Quakers). "Letters of administration on the estate of Richard Pope, deceased, Huntington township, Lancaster (now Adams) county, were granted to John Pope in 1746. From records of an Orphans' Court of York county, July 26, 1762, it appears that Richard Pope left a widow, Mary (since married to WILLIAM YOUNG) and three children, for whom ARCHIBALD MCGREW and JOHN WILSON were appointed guardians. The children were: 1. William, b. Sept. 16, 1743; apprenticed Sept. 2, 1762, to HENRY WIERMAN, tanner and currier, of Huntington until he came of age. 2. John, b. Oct. 13, 1744. 3. Sarah, b. June 1, 1746; apprenticed Sept. 1, 1762, to ROBERT SCOTT, yeoman, of Strabane township, until she is 18 years of age. There is reason to believe that PRISCILLA POPE, wife of HENRY WIERMAN, was closely related to these Popes. It is believed that the WILLIAM POPE of following record is the son of the above mentioned RICHARD POPE in the administration of his estate. WILLIAM POPE of Frederick Co. (MD). Will dated 23 May 1793, weak. All household furniture, except my clothes and 1 feather bed, with all my property in Montgomery Co., to be sold. To son SAMUEL all clothes except the fustian colored cotton coat and a srtiped fustian jacket, which I give my nephew THOMAS KING CLARKE. To dau. MARGARET feather bed & bedding. Residue to children SAMUEL, MARGARET, MARY, SARAH, and REBECCA equally. Whereas the 176 acre tract [being and lying on Mountain Creek near Pine Grove Furnace] in Cumberland Co., PA, which belonged to the estate of my uncle John Pope, late of York Co., is my legal property, it is to be sold when son Samuel is age 21 and half to him and half to daughters. My cousin ANTHONY SWISHER to take my dau. Sarah and LEONARD HUTTON to take daut. Rebecca, to bring up; both men of York Co., PA. John Clarke of Frederick Town and Samuel executors, but cousin Anthony Swisher and son Samuel to execute the land in Cumberland Co. /s/ Wm. Pope. Wit: John Wayne, Michael Markwood, James Clarke. Proved 13 Sept. 1793 by wit. (487-489).
