    3. Dianna, There are a couple of work-arounds here. First, if your ancestor was born in 1856, there's a good chance she lived past 1906. If she died in Pennsylvania in 1906 or later, you can order a death certificate from the state, which includes the names of the deceased's parents as well as the date of birth. Second, if you know where your ancestor was living at the time of her death, check the local newspapers for an obituary. Often church membership was included in the obituary; if not, knowing the name of the pastor who conducted the funeral could point you to the person's church. Some church records have been indexed and posted online. Others are stored at local historical or genealogy societies. If you know the township where your ancestor lived, you can check with the local historical society to see if they have church records. Many church records were microfilmed by the LDS church and are available from LDS Family History Centers. If you're in the U.S., the chances are good that there is a center near you. You can order the microfilm and go through the records at the center. Good luck.
