Jr does not necessarily mean a son of Sr. He could be another related or unrelated man in the area with the same name but younger than the Sr man, a means of differentiating two men of the same name. This information is for Pennsylvania tax lists, I don't know about other states: Freemen were men who were 21 years of age and were free of family obligations or trades. You can usually tell the age of a man by counting back from the first time he was taxed as a freeman. Inmates were persons who did not own any property but were probably mechanics or laborers and were married.
