Please be carefull also where you place your information. I sent a family tree to a private family society, only to have it show up on gencirlces.com, including information on myself. I contacted the person responsable for posting it, and she wrote back indicating that gencircles would not allow her to pull or edit this information. She is supposedly still trying. Yvonne
And be wary of sharing a hypothetical "working thesis" with anyone, even though clearly labeled hypothetical. I shared an unproven thesis with a distant relative fifteen years ago and, without my knowledge, he posted the thetical material on a well-known genealogical Website. When correct information was discovered that obviated my "working thesis," the Website owner refused to let me make corrections and, despite repeated pleas to the relative who had posted it, the erroneous material remained available on the Website for twelve years before the relative corrected the error. Unfortunately, that erroneous data is still being perpetuated in other resources to which it was copied from the Website that originally published the erroneous data. I know we all share unproven genealogical data in an effort to be helpful to other researchers but please be very wary of doing this. In today's world of facile and rapid communication, it is impossible to control how such data spreads and how it is used by others! Nelson R.
