    3. Okay, I'm not usually so dense when it comes to figuring out computer things, but I'm confused by the Lancaster Deeds site. It says to use SearchDocs to get the info to plug into the E-Reader but that doesn't seem to go as far back as I need. Do I have to page through everything or is there a way for me to search for a name and get the info for the film reader? Thanks. 3. Lynn, Maybe it isn't so obvious how to search the mailing list archives. I'm including a link. I just searched for your Albright and only had 113 hits. With more info you can whittle it down further. And there are abstracts so you don't have to read each email completely. You are searching the specific mailing list archives rather than rootsweb or the message boards. Here is the link: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search I didn't consider the issue with the digest format because I don't use it. I find it easier to just delete the individual emails rather than have a digest because that way I can save the ones easily and know what it is about from the subject. Everyone has their own way of organizing though and I didn't think of that. Sorry. Thank you. Many people don't know there *are* back issues of emails....or even that there *is* an email list -- let alone that archives of marriages of a list of how many (20+?) years worth of newspapers are on it! If you google a name, does this list come up, or do the list archives? No. But US Genweb or Rootsweb county pages might. No one expects people to know how to put stuff online themselves - but then, they don't have to. Because that is what Rootsweb and their volunteers are for. Obviously this list moderator doesn't know that? They could have suggested this themselves.... Lynn

Would they know to look here for newspaper archives, in a complete form? No. However, they might look on the Lancaster County Rootsweb site. Say I want to search the name Albright. I have to go *month by month* to do that on the search. OR I search and 11,676 names come up. (Or something to those numbers..) Maria's emails cannot be filtered if you receive the list in Digest form. Those people have to scroll through and through and through to get to another email they might want, because the format for Rootsweb list mail does not allow them to click on a title and skip. Lynn

    2. Since not everyone has access to adding data to a web site, perhaps Maria could give permission to the webmaster of the Lancaster PA web site to post the information she has so graciously been extracting for our benefit. That way, people who may not know to check back issues of emails would have access to the data. ...Just a thought. Karen In a message dated 10/30/2010 11:46:03 A.M. But I know several people that can email and not create a web page. Nor do they have the time. I appreciate the time anyone spends to share information. I look through all of Maria's emails when I get a chance. Just this morning I found my husband's 3rd great grandmother's maiden name. And I wasn't expecting to do genealogy but just browsing email on an off moment. What luck. I disagree that searching through the Roots Web emails takes a long time. You can easily go to the list archives on Roots Web and search the surname for any occurrence of your names of interest. It took just a few seconds. I just did it this morning after finding the maiden name to see if I had missed any posts on this surname I didn't know about previously. Also, if you or anyone else is not interested in reading Maria's emails, it is very easy to create a rule or filter in your email program that will automatically delete her emails without you ever reading them. If you don't know how to do this, feel free to email me off-list and I can help. This to me seems to be the best possible solution since those who are interested can continue to read them and those that aren't won't have to manually delete them every time. Plus, anyone who missed anything can easily search the archives. I hope we can agree to disagree and get back to helping each other with Lancaster genealogy.
