    1. [PALANCAS] Jacob Brown
    2. linumbienn
    3. Yea! I am finally getting through to Rootsweb again after SORBS blocked me from Rootsweb for ~ 3 weeks! I had to get my son to help sort it all out (yes, he's involved with computers/computer programs.). So, I hope I continue to get through. Here is my message of weeks ago. Hello, I read the Obit of Jacob Brown (Wed., Nov 9, 1842, Lancaster Examiner & Herald, Deaths, p.3: Thank you Maria!) This Jacob Brown "might be" an ancestor, but I can not find the 'proof' as yet. Might someone else be researching this Jacob Brown and have any more information or suggestions as to where to look further? I wonder 'where' the Family Bible might be today! That might give some insight into this Brown family. Jacob Brown, born 10 March 1758, died 27 Nov. 1842. Buried: Zion Evangelical Luthern Church, Manheim as per church records. Married to: Catherine ________. CHILDREN: 1. John Brown married to Mary _______, a widow. 2. Jacob Brown 3. William Brown (specific person I am looking for) 4. James Brown 5. Isaac Brown----bequeathed the Family Bible (Who did he marry?) 6. Catharine Brown married Thomas DeHart 7. Mary Brown married John Frantz In the Tax Records of Rapho Twp., Manheim, Lancaster Co., PA. I have found the following: 1807: first mention of Jacob Brown 1810, 1811, 1812: Jacob Brown 1818: Jacob Brown and Jacob Brown--cooper (Jacob's son?) 1820: Jacob Brown and Jacob Brown--cooper (Jacob's son?) and William Brown (Jacob's son?) 1821, 1822: Jacob Brown and Jacob Brown--cooper and William Brown 1823, 1824,1825: William Brown and Jacob Brown (no cooper listed. Did the 'cooper' Jacob Brown move away?) By 1831 William Brown also disappears from the Tax Records. In 1842 Jacob Brown is included in the Tax Records, but no Jacob Brown beginning in 1843. Jacob Brown died in 1842, so this makes sense. I have a Land Deed, Manheim Borough, that William Brown bought land from Samuels Deyer and wife: Date 1816. I did not find a deed for this land having been sold, as yet. This might shed some light on my research. Also in Manheim is John Thome, Esq., a surveyor and a Justice of the Peace in Manheim, a direct ancestor of mine. John Thome also "...certified that he was well acquainted with Jacob Brown........." when Jacob Brown applied for disability for his Revolutionary War Service. I have the Revolutionary War papers of Jacob Brown. John Thome was a witness to the Will of Jacob Brown. Son, William Brown, or heirs, is listed in Jacob's Will. The reason for this research is that a son of John Thome, Esq., Dr. Joseph S. Thome married Sarah Brown, whose father was William Brown (My brick wall). Since both John Thome and William Brown lived in Manheim it 'appears that' their children knew each other and ended up getting married, though Sarah Brown "was of Londonderry Township, Lebanon Co., PA." in the marriage announcements. Lebanon Co. is 'right next door' to Manheim area. So far, this is our only 'clue' as to 'who' our William Brown, father of Sarah Brown 'might' be. I have no idea when this William Brown died, where he is buried, or the church he attended. Dr. Joseph and Sarah B. Thome lived in S. Londonderry Twp. during their early marriage years. Dr. Joseph Thome was the Administrator for the Estate of Jacob Brown, of Londonderry Twp., Lebanon Co., PA. when Jacob Brown died in 1863, aged 79. Might this Jacob Brown be the son of the Jacob Brown of Manheim? Lots of bits and pieces that I have collected, yet I just can not find 'the key' nor what happened to Willliam Brown, his wife or any children. Any suggestions much appreciated! Sue
