    1. [PALANCAS] The Perry Historians FREE Advanced Genealogical Workshop
    2. Donna Heller Zinn
    3. Hello Fellow Listers: The Perry Historians will be hosting their FREE Advanced Genealogical Workshop on Saturday, April 9, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Harry Lenig Library (home of The Perry Historians). Harry Focht, one of our founding fathers will be the head speaker and presenter on this day. He will be making suggestions on various types of courthouse documents that you may not normally think of being used for genealogical research... as well as other "hidden" places to look for family information... which may help to knock down those "brick walls". We will be breaking for lunch, which you will be on your own. There are various eating establishments nearby for you to visit, or you may pack your lunch and eat in our kitchen area. After lunch, we will be concluding our presentation and there should be plenty of free time for you to use our facility and do some research on your families. So make sure you bring along your research materials and family genealogies. Again, this is FREE and there is no need to register... but we do ask that if you feel you may be interested in attending, please let us know so that should we have any handouts, we know how many copies to make. The Harry Lenig Library (The Perry Historians) is located on the right hand side of Rte. 34 North, just 2 miles from the square of New Bloomfield, Center Twp., Perry Co., PA. .... or on the left hand side of Rte. 34 South, about 4 miles from Newport, Oliver Twp., Perry Co., PA.. Our physical street address is: 763 Dix Hill Rd., New Bloomfield, PA. 17068. For more info on our library, feel free to visit our website: www.ThePerryHistorians.org Look forward to seein' you there! 1. Re: [PALANCAS] Robert Anderson
    2. James Stokes
    3.      You need to keep in mind that in 1776 Lancaster County also included what are now Dauphin and Lebanon County.  Since Dauphin County was settled by Scotch-Irish there were probably Andersons there as well, and they could descend from Andersons in Lancaster County proper.       There is a tax list in the printed Pa. Archives, you can find this at Footnote, on line.  I'd check this tax list for the late 1770s, this is probably a more reliable source for who was in Lancaster County (all of it) than just the existing Revolutionary War papers which we know aren't complete.       In 1777 Pa. had a draft of men between 18 and 53 the only people who were excluded were people who paid a fine and were called non-associators, the 1777 tax lists for Lancaster County include both the tax lists and the non-associators.  It would be better to come to Lancaster County and go through all those tax lists but the Pa. Archives might be a suitable alternative.  The 1780 tax list may have been late enough to have your ancestor old enough to be married and have his own household and show up on the tax lists.  Tax lists seem to be a more reliable way of checking who was in Lancaster County than Revolutionary Papers http://www.footnote.com/documents/185749/pennsylvania_archives/      If you do a search of Footnote don't forget to put the full name in quotations to eliminate all the Andersons, there will probably be tons of them and also, the tax lists are in the Pa Archives 3rd series, Vol. 17 so you can ignore other hits on Robert Anderson until later.  The tax lists are for 1771-1773, 1779 and 1782.  This should give you a more complete list of Robert Andersons in Lancaster County.      You might also check the records of Donegal Presybterian Church, these were published in Lancaster County Church Records of the 18th century, this might turn up something on the Elizabeth Twp. Andersons.  Maybe someone on the list has that book and can check it for you.                                                                                         Jim Conestoga Area Historical Society http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pacahs/index.htm The Googel Search Engine on our page now works. ________________________________ From: C. His son Irwin's biography says that Robert Anderson was "a soldier of the Revolution, descended from a pioneer family of Lancaster county, whither they had emigrated from Ireland prior to the Revolution". PA Archives indicate there were 5 Robert Andersons who served in Lancaster militias: 1 from Colerain twp, 1 from East Strasburg twp, 1 from Elizabeth twp, and 2 from Leacock twp (Sr. and Jr.). I have tentatively eliminated all but the one from Elizabeth and "Jr." from Leacock. The latter remains a mystery because Robert Anderson Sr's only son named Robert was born in 1776, way too young to have served in the Revolution. My Robert Anderson is not registered with DAR, and he apparently is not one of the Donegal Andersons as they are fairly well documented. He moved west after the war and settled in Allegheny county. Any clues leading to Robert Anderson's origins greatly appreciated. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PALANCAS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Searching for August Weibel (August shortened to "Gast" and Weibel also spelled "Wible") of Lancaster county, born about 1737. PA Archive records show he paid taxes in Hempfield twp during the years 1771-1773. He served in the Lancaster county militia for Hempfield twp during the Revolution under Capt. Henry Kuster. He moved to western Pennsylvania after the war and settled in Allegheny county. I want to know who his parents and siblings were.

    3. Hello, Brownie. I have kept our "Engulf and Devour" messages just because it is nice to know that there are others out there who feel the same as I do. From what I read on the NARA researchers list serve the situation is going to be much worse for us. Do you watch the "Who Do You Think You Are?" series? I watched one and got so angry and disgusted that I haven't watched any this season. Debra Blackard Overbey

    3. Thanks for the suggestion. I actually keep ALL of the messages, because sometimes they contain information that I don't know I need now but might in the future. Getting them in a digest form simplifies the filing and searching process, and saves me having to open 7 or 8 different messages. Besides, receiving the messages separately wouldn't eliminate the long strings of sideways carets. As a general rule, netiquette suggests eliminating all but the essence of a message you're answering, the way I did below. Usually if I ask politely, people take the hint, which makes the list better for everyone, not just me. 1. [PALANCAS] Benedict Bucher & Marie (unk) Frey
    2. I'm researching, Maria (unk) Frey, the second wife of Benedict Bucher from Cocalico Twp.as found in the record below. I believe Maria and Johannes are the parents of Catherine Frey born 1760 who married Johannes Hage born 1754 +/- also found in the same record. I'm hoping some Bucher researcher might have stumbled across a piece of the puzzle. I need Marie's maiden name. Pensylvania Archives Series 6 Vol VI Chapter: Baptismal and Marriage records Rev. John Waldscmidt, Cocalico, Moden Krick, WeisseichenLand and Seltenreich. Gemeinde. lancaster Co., PA 1752-1786 pg 224. Bucher_Benedictus or Benedict - or Benns Bucher second marriage to Maria, widow of Johannes Frey married 8 Sep 1778. Benedict was first married to Anna Hershey. Hag_ Johannes, son of decd. Conrad Hag, and Catharina Frey daughter of decd. Johannes Frey on Aug 7, 1781 in Cocalico Twp. Lancaster Co., PA . Benedict Bucher's will of 1787 also leaves widow Mary £200 minus the £60 bond of John Heck. This is the same year that Johannes Hage purchased land in Chanceford Twp, York Co. I have been have difficulty in pin pointing which Johannes Frey was the father of Catherine as well a locating a maiden name for Marie, her mother. ------------------------------------------- Also, there are several possibilities where Johannes Hage's father is concerned. I've been circling the drain on this for years. Just thought I'd through it out there again. A Conrad (Au)Hage age 40 arrived in 1753 along with a Christopher Auhage. Conrad wrote his name as Hage in the Oath of Allegiance signed in Philadelphia. Its possible that Christopher was later written as Christian Hage. As a Christian Hage is also found in the Moden Creek records. There are several other Haak, Hawk, Hage, Hege and Frey marriages in the same localitities and time frame. George Hege married Eva Frey, Balthasar Hege married Julianna, John Hege married Mary Frey. Also aligning with Roth, Rupp and Volk or Walk families. Then again in 1777 a Johannes Hage arrived in Phila. So its possible his father Conrad never touched US soil.

We would like to get in contact with descendants of Adam and Philip Burger and/or interested searcher to share informations. Thanks in advance.
