Amen to all the below - I, too, had my difficulties with trying to correct information way back in the 80's - as I have the original marriage certificate hanging on the wall infront of me - I finally just gave up and have made sure that everytime I send out information that this correction is made. I just pasted my 49th year of "doing it the old way" - back when we sent self-stamped addressed envelopes and waited and waited for answers - it has been a great journey and I will continue until l can no longer see or type. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel E Weinhold" <deweinhold@juno.com> To: <lumackie@gmail.com>; <palancas@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 29, 2011 11:28 AM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] Caution about Ancestry and East Earl Township > Family Historian,s looking for information; > > > There are "companies,s "that will be glad to receive Your > information, but for FREE: if you request it,You Pay for it! > > If the information you share with Them is correct, O.K, They in turn > will Sell it at a cost, Business. > > If the information has mistakes in it "it goes OUT" like that: THEY do > not and will not correct it, I am told, even if you try to share the > correction,s with them. I've been dealing with Ancestry.com off and on for twenty years. They're in it for the money and nothing else. They DON'T CARE WHETHER OR NOT THEIR INFORMATION IS ACCURATE. They should be outlawed. I hope you let ancestry.com know. Errors like that need to be brought to their attention; they can't fix them if they don't know the errors are there. Of course, their attitude when they are informed of the errors isn't particularly encouraging. They gave me some bs excuse about how long such errors take to fix in their databases. Still, such errors will only get fixed if we tell them about them. Thanks, Triste Elliott --- If you can't get rid of them ugly old skeletons in the closet, at least teach 'em how to dance funny. I've noticed that with Manheim versus Manheim Township, too. At least once I noticed that the census enumerator had written Manheim on that particular page but all the other pages in that group had Manheim Township written on it. Must have gotten tired of writing it! So it is not always the transcriber that makes errors. ALSO, some of the draft registrations for WWI and II come up for the name you were searching for but show the card for another person. I have found that you can track your person down by going through the directories at the top. All the names are in alphabetical order but may be in a different section. I don't know how to explain it clearly at the moment without an example at hand, but if anyone comes across this and wants help, just email me. As long as we are talking about ancestry. Noticed awhile back that a number of my ancestors living in Lancaster, Lancaster Co. PA were listed in the WW1 draft registration as living in Lancaster, Butler Co. PA. The actual registration cards are accurate. Probably wouldn't have noticed, but it is a odd last name. I recently discovered that my great-great-grandfather, who according to Ancestry was living in Earl Township, Lancaster County in the 1880 census. When I went to the Lancaster Historical Society and checked their tax records, it turned out that he lived in East Earl that year. I doublechecked Ancestry, and sure enough, they said he lived in Earl. I took a look at the scan of the actual page, and it said East Earl Township. I complained to them, and they checked and said that they would fix it, but that it would be a long process. So, if you use ancestry.com to view census record, do doublecheck the heading on the scan to make sure it matches the data in their indexing. It may be, for all I know, that they only indexed one or two names wrong. Then again, the whole township may be mis-indexed. >>>I need page 876 for Jacob Lutz<<< Jacob is in Heidelberg Twp He is taxed on 40 acres, 1 horse, 1 cow Barbara
I found the link for Lancaster Tax lists from 1772 to 1782. However, it does not have the last third of the book scanned. I need page 876 for Jacob Lutz, which is near the end of that book. I'd like to find especially the township and year he (Jacob Lutz) was enumerated in Lancaster Co. Please send to rricabee@aol.com if you can transcribe this! Thanks, Richard
Looking for any information on a John Miller who died 1776 in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa.. Per his will, his wife was Isabella and children listed were Abraham, David and John. I am trying to determine if son David could have been my David Miller who married Deborah Zook (d/o Peter Zug/Zook s/o Ulrich Zug of Warrick Twp.) and was in Fayette and Washington Cos. from about 1780 until 1793 when he migrated to Nelson Co., Ky. Thanks, Art Miller, Louisville

I'm seeking any information on the descendants of a William Dean/Dane/Dehn who was born about 1801, very probably in Earl Township, Lancaster Co., PA. In 1819-1826 he was involved in the settlement of his father's estate which included 12+ acres formerly in Earl now in Cocalico Township. In 1826 William Dean, Sadler, was one of the grantors of 222+ acres located partially in Earl and partially in Cocalico Townships. William Dehn and his wife, Susan, were the parents of Adam, baptized Aug. 14, 1827 at the Bergstrasse Lutheran Church in Ephrata. I have nothing after that on William. William's father, Caleb Dean/Dane, died 21 Mar 1819 probably in Earl Township. Caleb and his wife, Maria (maiden name Marlin), were married 16 Feb 1785 by the Rev. John Waldschmidt, minister of the German Reformed Church in southeastern Pennsylvania. They are buried in the cemetery at the Bergstrasse Lutheran Church in the borough of Ephrata, then in Cocalico Township. Their gravestones bear the following inscriptions: Dean, Caleb 7/12/1765-3/21/1819 and Mary, consort of Caleb 1/12/1763-3/6/1807. When Caleb's estate was settled in 1822, Caleb was survived by two children: William and William's older sister named Mary (1798-1875) who was married to William Werntz (1792-1855). I have more information on William's ancestors which I would like to share. I need information on his descendants, especially male Dean descendants. Shirley, I think your Christina Brenner is the daughter of Philip Brenner and Catherine Nestelroth of Lancaster Co. The following is a series of documents which supports this: 1) Orphans Court, 25 Feb 1835. R. Frazer, atty for Rudolph Wisler, guardian of Christiana Brenner, minor dau of Philip Brenner, asks for citation to John Miller, surviving exec of Israel Nestelrode, who was guardian of Christiana. 2) Orphans Court, 16 Mar 1835. Court orders John Miller, surviving exec of Israel Nestelrode, former guardian of Christiana Brenner, to show cause why attachment should not be issued against him. 3) Lancaster Journal, 5 Jun 1835. There is a newspaper entry regarding the above court records, which also says there is another orphan named Philip. 4) Orphans Court, 20 Apr 1835. Attachment awarded agst John Miller, surviving exec of Israel Nestelrode, former guardian of Christiana Brenner. 5) Orphans Court, 15 Jun 1835. John Miller, exec of Israel Nestelrode of Manor Twp decd, who was guardian of Christiana and Philip Brenner, minor children of Philip Brenner, shows $525.76 1/2 in the account. (Note: A major responsibility of the Orphans Court is to protect the financial interests of children. Israel Nestelrode was the original guardian and, since he was now deceased, the court was trying to ensure John Miller, Israel's executor, could account for the money due the orphans. 6) OC, 2 Nov 1835. Another entry re: the account. 7) OC, 19 Nov 1839. Christiana Brenner requests Abraham Brenneman as guardian to replace Rudolph Wisler. (Note: A child could pick his/her own guardian once he/she turned 14.) 8) Deed Book S7: 174-178 (these are available online). These are three deeds/agreements, all dated 12 Sep 1850. They are a bit hard to understand, but land is being sold by Thomas and Elizabeth Steers to Benjamin Wishler. In the last one they are selling a lot "subject and liable to the payment of the yearly interest of --- on the principle sum of --- the dower or thirds of Catharine Hudson late Catharine Brenner, widow of Philip Brenner late of Manor Township..." This Philip Brenner (who was born in 1787) probably died earlier than Feb 1835. I don't have the documents, but there was a Philip Brenner who died intestate in 1826. There are few more OC records for a Philip Brenner between 1826 and 1835. I just haven't looked at them. Two of them (1825-1828: 300 and 1831-1833: 455) are regarding the appointment of guardians. Perhaps the first is the appointment of Israel Nestelrode and the second is the replacement appointment of Rudolph Wisler. Philip's brother was the Emanuel Brenner whose lot in Safe Harbor was sold to Thomas Steers in 1845 (Deed C7: 414). There is also a deed from Israel Nesterod (sic) and wife to Philip Brenner dtd 6 Aug 1813 (Deed B7: 90). This is soon after Philip Brenner married Catherine Nestelroth on 13 Sep 1812 (Trinity Lutheran Church Records). Further research will probably show that Israel N. is Catherine's father. There are only a few mentions of child/orphan Philip, so he may have died before reaching adulthood. If you haven't done so, you might want to see if you can find Christina's birth in the Trinity Lutheran church records. The published records only go up through 1810. The Lancaster Co Historical Society has a photocopy of the originals. I would also look for a will or probate for Catharine Hudson. If she left an estate, some or all of it would go to her grandsons, Isaac and Thomas Steers. Shirley, About when was your Christina Brenner Steers born? Right now I assume she was born a Brenner and married a Steers? If so, who did she marry - and when and where? In what township did they live? And lastly, do you know the names of their children? I have a lot of Brenner material for Lancaster and York and may be able to point you in the right direction if I know a bit more. Thanks again, Ernest. I have the information you sent me previously, but am trying to find out the day and month of death so I can order a death certificate and then hopefully have the maiden name of his mother, Cassie. I, too, would very much appreciate someone who can look up a death for me. Christina Brenner STEERS, died January 23, 1846, buried in Conestogo Reform Church yard. I understand that Church no longer exist. I am trying to identify her parents. Thanks, Shirley Duke Tampa, Fl
