I am in need of a death record for a Catherine Hake who died in Lancaster Co, probably in or around Washington Borough prior to 1860. I am in desperate need of locating a maiden name for Catherine so I can also locate a marriage record for her. She was found in this census record below with he name spelled as Hague but her husbands family across the river in Windsor Twp, York Co spelled it as Hake or Hage and occasionally Heck. She was a widow of William who died in 1823 when Catherine was 6 months pregnant with her daughter Catherine. Catherine appears in 1830 Manor Twp, Lancaster PA Catherine Hake, Age 30/40 no mention of children. We know from Orphan courts documents that the older two children were farmed out with the Hake relations but there is no mention of Catherine and her younger children. 1850 Washington Borough, Lancaster Co., PA 10 Oct 1850 John Rider 31 Catharine Rider 27 Born in York Fanny Rider 6 Samuel Rider 5 Sarah Rider 1 Catharine Hague 57 Catherine & John Rider's family soon after moved to Whitley, Indiana where I have searched for any mention of Catherine. I found none but did locate this record below. Samuel Rider a prosperous farmer and ex-soldier of the Civil war is a son of John and Catherine (Hake) Rider, and was born in York county. Pennsylvania. March 3, 1845. There he resided until he was ten years of age, at which time his parents moved to Whitley county, Indiana. SOURCE: page 543; Progressive men and women of Kosciusko County, Indiana: to which is appended ... By B.F. Bowen & Co. So according to this record Catherine may have passed away prior to their leaving for Indiana about 1855-1856 or she could have died anywhere along the way. There are no records of her in Whitley, Indiana or other counties nearby. It is my belief Catherine (unk) Hake may have moved across the river to seek assistance from her own family. Her daughters can all be found near by. While her son William Jr married Susan Rider the sister of John Rider, and settled in York County. 1850 Washington Borough, Lancaster, Pennsylvania John Walk 31 Elizabeth (Hake) Walk 33 Born in York 1850 Census Conestoga, Lancaster,PA Brady, Adam 27 Frederick 24 Eberly, Fanny (Hake) 30 Born in York * Fanny 's husband, Simon Eberly, was believed dead. It is not known where William Hage/Hake was buried as he was a pauper and was very ill before he died at the age of 35. He died in debt and may have been laid to rest in a paupers grave. His family was well established in Chanceford Twp and owned land on which he may also have been laid to rest. Thanks for any help. Melissa Hake Fitzkee

Hi Would someone be able to check an obituary for me? A Sara Mae Gingrich b.31 May 1903 (nee Weaver) d.24 Mar.1998 of East Petersburg Was she the wife of Rufus Gingrich? Much appreciated! David
Debra, Again, thanks for the look up. I have the Doniphan County Census, but not the Wayne County Census. Jacqueline
Debra, Thanks, these are the ones! I can add the final resting place of my 3rd great uncle and aunt. My paternal aunt lived in Philly and had the address of Delno and went by there. She worked with someone that was a patient of Delno's. We just didn't have their final resting place. Thanks again for looking. Jacqueline

I am looking for Curtis & Barbara (Keiser) Kercher. They were married in Lancaster County, PA. August 23, 1832 by Rev. Sunniston. They were from Manhiem, PA, Wanting to know where they might be buried. Their four children: Susan (my great great grandma), David, Harry, Will, were all born in PA. But, Susan (Sept 1965 to John Frederick Appuhn) and David (Apr 1868 to Rachel Matilda Cherry) were married in Wayne County, OH. Both families homesteaded abt 1869 in Cass Co, NE, and Doniphan Co, KS. Susan's family are buried in Cass Co, NE and Lancaster Co, NE. David and his son in Philadelphia, PA. Will went to sea and was never heard from again. Family story goes that Harry also homesteaded in KS. I haven't found him yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for Rachel Matilda (Tillie) Cherry Kercher's place (and time) of death. She was born 12-18-1848 Wayne County, OH. Possible death year 1943, in Leona, Doniphan County, KS or Philadelphia, PA. Parents: Moses and Elizabeth (Nichols) Cherry of Wayne County, OH. Husband: David Kercher 1843 (Lancaster County, PA) -1919 (Philadelphia, PA). Son: Delano Ernest Kercher 1869 - 1938 (Philadelphia, PA). Delano was a doctor in Philly. David and Rachel homesteaded in North East Kansas in area that became Leona, Doniphan County, KS. David gave part of his land for the town site so railroad could have a station. David also was first postmaster. On a trip to Leona, we found an area of homes, no stores, etc. were there. The old grain store was beside the railroad. Old school house, not even a church. The only cemetery was just north of Leona. No Kercher's or Cherry's are buried there. When David retired he went to Philly to his son's residence. He and David are buried there in Philly, but no clue of cemetery at this time or if Rachel died there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Church records would be the way to go. "Official" documents were not available until about 1850. I totally agree. I have put some of my information in a family tree and realized that they are getting it for free but I have to pay for the information that I want and that doesn't not seem right. If you give them info then they in turn should allow you to get it free. Any more I just use the census and I may end it soon. Vivian I've been dealing with Ancestry.com off and on for twenty years. FYI County set to digitize veterans records as old as 18th century 6/3/11 Project expected to cost about $20,000 By TOM JOYCE Daily Record/Sunday News Updated: 06/03/2011 01:17:30 PM EDT York, PA - York County has its share of veterans' memorials. But the most comprehensive one is never seen by the public. It resides in a walk-in safe in a locked room of the York County Department of Veterans Affairs. And it consists of tens of thousands of index cards, each one of which bears the name of a deceased York County veteran. The veterans listed on those cards fought in conflicts ranging from the 18th century's French and Indian War all the way up to modern engagements in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to York County Director of Veterans Affairs Phil Palandro. Soon, the county will start on a project that will involve scanning all of those cards and putting them in digital form. "We just want to move into the 21st century," Palandro said. According to Palandro, the index cards include the name of the veterans, what war they fought in and where they're buried. Palandro said federal law requires the county to maintain those records. Although they're not public, family members or a designee can look at them to check on the burial status of an individual. And Palandro said his office uses them each Memorial Day to put out 52,000 American flag grave markers throughout the county. Digitizing the index cards will make them easier to search. County officials also worry about the possibility of losing them in a fire, Palandro said. York County Information Technology Director Al Raneiro said the project should start this summer. He said it will likely cost about $20,000, which will come from a fund made up of filing fees from the county recorder of deeds office. "It blows my mind, how many cards there are," Raneiro said.
Been following the discussion about Ancestry. I've given up on them. There are too many errors in what they publish for too much money. I've been researching my ancestors for over ten years and I must agree with Pam -- if you come across a hot lead, you can't beat a direct letter of intro stating who you are and what you're searching for. Always enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. It works every time! Maybe the person you've contacted isn't the one, but at least you'll get a response and maybe another lead to follow. When you actually ring the bell, you'd be surprised at what you get back. I once sent an inquiry to a possible in South Carolina (I live in Western Mass.) and received an envelope full of great stuff. Her enclosed letter started: "Hi, Ray. Welcome to the extended family!" Ray Be careful of that for which you search. You may find it.
