I have the volume1 of Lanc Co PA Ch Records of the 18th C by Wright, which includes all the churches you mentioned EXCEPT Swamp Reformed -- there are NO Manner / Menner entries. Volume 1 contains the records for all the churches referenced - Cocalico, Seltenreich, Swamp and White Oaks and there is no Manner or Menner listed in the index of the volume. Also, none in Volume 2 that shows records for First Reformed of Lancaster. Sorry. It is listed on Open Library but unfortunately it is not an ebook. http://openlibrary.org/books/OL1173684M/Lancaster_County_Pennsylvania_church_records_of_the_18th_century On Oct 4, 2011, at 8:03 PM, A Miner wrote: > I was wondering if anyone has this book and if they could please > look for a > Gorg/George Manner/Menner particularly in the records for Muddy Creek, > Cocalico Reformed, Seltenreich, Swamp Reformed, or White Oaks. Thank you very much for your help Gloria, that is the person I am looking for but I have seen that entry before and was wondering if there is anything more on George in other Lancaster County Church records. I was wondering if anyone has this book and if they could please look for a Gorg/George Manner/Menner particularly in the records for Muddy Creek, Cocalico Reformed, Seltenreich, Swamp Reformed, or White Oaks. The year range would be 1730s to the 1760s. Thank you
I don't have that book, but I do have a George Menner, widower,, married Eva Meinzer, daughter of George Meinzer, on July 3, 1764. This was in Rev. Waldschmidt"s REcords in Berks Co., PA Vol. 3. Hope it is of some help. Whatever it's faults, would someone please send me the URL for the online wills. Thanks. Graham
The index to Lancaster Co wills covers the period 1729 to 1850. The online abstracts (at least the ones I'm familiar with) cover the period 1729 to 1819. I believe that accounts for most of the difference you have cited. That said, I understand it doesn't explain the absence of Samuel Huber's will. If I remember correctly, Ed Wright's book "Abstracts of Lancaster Co, PA Wills..." includes exactly the same information that appears online. Both, of course, could include errors of omission. The abstracts were originally published many years ago (early 1900s) by the Historical Society of PA. Wright's book and the online abstracts are simply reprints of the same material. As with anything, errors occur when original materials are retyped and repackaged for publication. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Allen" <allen.richard74@yahoo.com> To: <palancas@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 02, 2011 7:04 PM Subject: [PALANCAS] Abstracts of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Wills,1786-1820 LOOKUP I need a look in "Abstracts of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Wills, 1786-1820 " for the will of Samuel Huber, dated 1788. A check of the U.S. Gen Web Archives did not show this will even in the index, while it was present as several of you helpfully commented, and in the online Heritage Quest index. A comparison of the Huber wills listed in Heritage Quest in the index was made to those with the Huber names in the U.S. Gen Web Archives, and this showed that less than one half of the available wills of that surname were ever transcribed in the latter. So use the later with caution, especially as to determining whether or not someone left a will, let alone a probate. It is not known whether the U.S. Gen Web Archives posting of transcribed wills for Lancaster is going to continue or not, but I feel they first should have placed in their index all of the available wills, and then shown in another color those for which a transcription had been made online. Therefore their index, as it exists now, is only to wills already transcribed, not all those available for Lancaster County, which is two different things entirely. For example there are 44 wills of the Huber name listed in the index in Heritage Quest. However, only twenty have been transcribed and appear in the index for the U.S. Gen Web Archives for Lancaster Co. It looks to be like someone "goofed up" somewhere! The index should have been the first to be transcribed to completion, before any individual wills were transcribed,at least in my humble opinion. Perhaps it started out with volunteer submissions of complete wills? I would imagine that the Abstracts of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Wills, 1786-1820 is complete and comprehensive for those dates? Thanks to Jim and the links he sent, I found 2 land warrents for Hans Herman DICE in Brecknock Twp. The dates are 24 April 1748 and 26 Apr 1749. I am descended from Peter Dice (b 1778), s/o John who died in 1788 in Brecknock Twp., Lancaster Co. I have found information on Peter and John in Lancaster County, with the spelling of THEISS but never DICE. Does anyone on this list know anything about this Hans Herman Dice? The family of Johann Matthias THEISS is well researched but I have not found my connection to that family. Peter DICE married Christina Schneider at Schwartzwald Reformed Church in Berks Co. in 1799. She was the d/o Christian Phillip and Dorothea Miller Schneider. They came west to Allegheny Co., PA around 1800 with Christina's mother and siblings. Thank you. Hi Graham, There are lots of places to check when working on Lancaster County Genealogy. Typically these work best for older records so this may depend on the period your working in. Check with you local library to see if they offer any databases that can be used for genealogy. The Lancaster County Library offers Heritage Quest that offers access to some census information. The Pennsylvania State Archives has lists of Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers on-line at http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/ The Pa. Genweb State Archives have lots of useful information including abstracts of wills before 1820 or so, it is located at http://usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm Fold3, formerly NotePad.com has the printed Pa. War soldiers, marriages (Pa. Marriages Prior to 1790 and Pa. Marriages Prior to 1810) as well as limited church records. This is a free service but they will ask you for your email address so they contact you with requests for full membership, which costs. The Lancaster County Digitization Project has lots of old newspapers online that can be searched, as well as City and perhaps County directories. It is at http://lcdp.wetpaint.com/ Lancaster County Digitization Project There is also a web page that has the 1864 Map of Lancaster County on-line but I can't find the link, maybe someone else here will post it. There are other sites of varying usefulness, our web page is good if your ancestors lived in Conestoga, Manor, Martic, Pequea and Millersville and Washington Boroughs. We are at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pacahs/ You can use the site search feature to search your surnames.
