New Amithi is the place of birth listed for one of my ancestors. He was born 28 September 1738. The place is thought to have been in Rye Twp. in Cumberland County. Cumberland County was formed from Lancaster County in 1750. Does anyone know of an area known as New Amithi/Amithe in Pennsylvania? Kathy
Hello Tom. My Gabel connection is Michael Gabel married to Lucinda Guyer. I was born a Guyer. In the graveyard of a small church in East Salem, in Delaware Twp., Juniata County I found a tombstone that says: 'Mother' Lucinda Guyer wife of Michael Gabel Died May 21, 1880 Aged 49 yrs 4 m &15 days. (but there is no tombstone there for Michael Gabel) If they were married by 1850, (she would have been 19 or 20 then) they could be in the 1850 census, but I haven't looked for either of them yet. Since her name was Lucinda GUYER, (my surname) I was interested and took a photo of the tombstone. I'm not sure where Lucinda or Michael fit into my ancestry. My guess is that Lucinda's father was my gg grandfather John Guyer's brother (David), but haven't been able to prove that yet. I know that my Guyer ancestors moved to Juniata County from Lancaster County, so it is possible that these Juniata County Gabels and your Lancaster County Gabels are connected. Darlene PS. I did find a Michael Gabel in Juniata County in the 1880 census. He lived in Fayette Twp. (which is next to Delaware Twp) His marital status is listed as W (Widowed). His age is 49. He has two children; son Ammon Gabel age 11 and daughter Catherine Gabel age 10. I'm sorry, I don't remember. It COULD have been Salisbury Twp, I totally forgot what township it was, but it did have a township listed. I looked up the number of the antique shop. It's (610) 268-0226. He may still be at the antique show at Valley Forge today. Hopefully the map hasn't been sold. Darlene On Sep 25, 2005, at 3:54 PM, civi3 wrote: > > Thanks a million. Hello. I have been following the discussion about the Gabel families. I am distantly related to some Gabels from the same era as you were discussing, but my ancestors lived in Juniata County. I'd be interested in talking to you about that more, but what I wanted to tell you today is. . . . Yesterday, I went to an antique show. In one of the booths I saw a hand drawn map of the Gabel's property in Lancaster County. (It said what township the property was in, but I've forgotten what it said it was.) It was done in black ink and the writing on it was in a calligraphy style. It was framed and the cost was about $100. The dealer's shop was called Antiques and Images in Avondale, PA. If you'd like more information about it, I'm sure you could find the number and give him a call. -Darlene On Sep 22, 2005, at 8:59 PM, Bob Young wrote: > Tom - Based on what I've seen I think it is our ancestor. > > Bob Young > Upper Saucon, PA > > civi3 <civi3@comcast.net> wrote: > Cathi, > I hadn't thought of that and I was wondering if he could be my GGG > Grand > Father, it fits except for the 1850. > Tom > ----- Original Message ----- > From: > To: > > Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 4:57 PM > Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] GABEL lookup > > >> >> In a message dated 9/19/2005 8:33:54 PM Eastern Standard Time, >> nadineh@up-link.net writes: >> >> Mortality Index: 1850 >> Age: 67 >> Gender: M >> Occupation: Farmer >> Death Date: August, 1850 >> Death Location: Lancaster, Pennsylvania >> Cause: Consumption >> Birth Location: Pennsylvania >> >> >> >> >> Would the death date be August 1849, since the mortality index is for >> the >> previous year? >> >> Thank you for these lookups, Nadine. >> >> Cathi >> >> >> ==== PALANCAS Mailing List ==== >> List Owner can be reached for help with the list at >> PALANCAS-Admin@rootsweb.com >> >> > > > ==== PALANCAS Mailing List ==== > This is your list use and enjoy for genealogy. > > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam? Darlene, My cousin in Havertown, PA is going to check out the map tomorrow, She thinks it could be from the estate of another cousin Wayne Gabel who died last year at the age of 106, a nephew of Wayne's lives near Avondale. This Phillip could be my gggrandfather, that is what I'm am trying to prove. His father Michael came from Bavaria, via Rotterdam, on the ship Chance, landing in Philadelphia on 1 Nov 1763. He settled in Lancaster County and farmed for some years. Phillip, his son, had 3 sons and 2 daughters as far as I can find online. I am trying to find out if he had a son Adam. He died in Miffllin County ca 1825-1827. That is why I thought he might be in the Pa. Will's. I have a picture of his will, of the disposal of household items, but the main pages are not there. My grandfather was Michael Thomas Aultz, a blacksmith and Civil War Vet. He was the son of this Adam. Michael Thomas had 19 children of wives 2 and 3, of 5. My grandmother was wife 3. Wife's 4 and 5 were in advanced years. Are you researching this family, or the Adam that went to Virginia, and had lived with Michael for a spell? Would like to hear more from you. Dutch Colwell
I research Aults, so I have run across this name with interest before. If I recall this family did not stay in the Lancaster area. Mike
