Hello Fellow Listers: Has anyone ever found a really good website which provides information about the United Brethren Church, their history and their customs? If so, could you share that link? Thanks in advance. Donna Heller Zinn of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA.

First, if your ancestor was born in 1856, there's a good chance she lived past 1906. If she died in Pennsylvania in 1906 or later, you can order a death certificate from the state, which includes the names of the deceased's parents as well as the date of birth. Second, if you know where your ancestor was living at the time of her death, check the local newspapers for an obituary. Often church membership was included in the obituary; if not, knowing the name of the pastor who conducted the funeral could point you to the person's church. Some church records have been indexed and posted online. Others are stored at local historical or genealogy societies. If you know the township where your ancestor lived, you can check with the local historical society to see if they have church records. Many church records were microfilmed by the LDS church and are available from LDS Family History Centers. If you're in the U.S., the chances are good that there is a center near you. You can order the microfilm and go through the records at the center. Good luck. Thanks for the info. I've also thought about checking church records available as he was Lutheran. Joan Shurtliff
I stumbled across somone needing information on a web site from 1997. The email address is not currant. I have information about Roland F. Nye from Lancaster Co. If Beatrice Murdaugh is a member of this list, will you please contact me. Yvonne
Check Lancaster County tax records between 1853 and 1856. They are available at the Pennsylvania State Archives and probably at the Lancaster County Historical Society as well. Nearly all adult males paid taxes, not just the land owners.
Its going to be tough finding someone who was only here for a few years. The Lancaster City Directory of 1845 would be too early and the one for 1857 would be too late, there were no others. They missed the census. You might find something in tax records but its a stretch. Good Evenin' Dianna and Fellow Listers: For a Birth Record or documentation for times other than 1852-1855 you will have to find Bible or Church Records. During the years 1852-1855 the State required that the births and deaths be recorded at the County level in the County Court House. [note: The years may differ from county to county in Pennsylvania but the years listed before are true for at least the following list: Cumberland, Perry, Adams, York, Franklin, Juniata] Donna ----- Original Message ----- From: <mtmodie@aol.com> To: <PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2005 5:26 PM Subject: [PALANCAS] Lancaster County birthrecords > To the list: > My gg grandmother was born May 15, 1856 in Lancaster, County PA.
