Looking for information on the Staffert/Staffort/Stafford family. James Staffert (aka James Stafford) Date and place of birth unknown Date and place of death unknown Marriage date 19 Jan 1797 Place of marriage Schwartzwald Reformed Church, Exeter Township, Berks Co., Pa Spouse Christiana Boehm (Christina) Date and place of birth unknown Date and place of death unknown Their son Johannes Staffert (aka James Stafford) Date of birth 19 Apr 1799 (I have seen Aug shown in some Eshleman/Eshelman trees) Place of birth Brecknock, Berks County, Pennsylvania Baptized 17 Sep 1799 Schwartzwald Reformed Church, Exeter Township, Berks Co., Pa Church records show his last name and fathers last names as Staffort. Marriage date unknown I already have John’s will from Berks Co. 23 pages long It lists my Samuel and Lydia and surviving children. I also found a Stafford will (one page) dated 1839 but it talks about a child (Polly) over 14 who needed guardian. Lists John Stafford as decd father. Do not believe this 1839 will for John Stafford is our line. Spouse of Johannes Staffert/Staffort/Stafford Lidia Eshelman (aka Lydia) (aka Eshleman) Date of birth 13 Jan 1811 Place of birth Pennsylvania Died 26 Mar 1871 Place of death Brecknock, Berks County, Pennsylvania Their children All born in Pennsylvania probably Brecknock Berks Co. 1. John Stafford born 1836 2. Sarah Stafford born 1837 3. Samuel E. Stafford born 26 Jan 1841 4. James Stafford born 1842 5. Solomon Stafford born Feb 1845 6. Catharine Keziah Stafford born 1 Mar 1847 7. Joseph Stafford born 1849 8. Nelson E. Stafford born March 1851 9. Elen Ellen Stafford born 1852 10. Jacob Mooer Stafford born 1854 11. Eveline Frances Stafford born 1855 I descend from the 3rd child Samuel who moved to Michigan I have tons of information on the Eshelman/Eshleman family I'm looking for more info on James and his wife Christiana. James appears in the 1800 census under James Stafford Robeson, Berks Co, Pa Christina Stafford appears in the 1810 census Robeson, Berks Co. Pa I am assuming James died after 1800 and before 1810 I cannot find Christiana after the 1810 census. Son John (Johannes Staffert) born 1797 first appears in the 1840 census under John Staffert. I can trace the Staffert/Stafford family then forward all the way through my ancestors in Michigan. Meaning Samuel E. Stafford’s family. My questions are: Were is John (born 1797) before the 1840 census. Especially if mother Lydia died before the 1820 census. Or did Lydia remarry? Does anyone know anything about James Staffert and his wife Christiana Boehm, birth dates, places of birth, dates and places of death. Who were the ancestors of James and Christiana? Name apparently was Americanized to Stafford. Did James or Christiana leave a will? I did not see one for them in Berks Co. I found Joseph Staffert born 1801 living in Ohio in 1850 census with his family. Is Joseph the son of James and Christiana and the brother of John (Johannes) Any information on the Staffert/Stafford family for James and Christiana and their ancestors would be most appreciated. I'm still new to searching in PA so I might not know all the places yet This line is my moms side and dad German side I've already research, they all came to Michigan. Thanks in advance, Karen Jenter Michigan
Thanks Joseph, Abby and Tim. I was doing a search last night on Lancaster and the search engine only brought the index up on the Scott file so am pleased to have this additional file to work with. I am trying to find connections between the Scotts in Lancaster, Chester and Cecil co. Who am I looking for? My ancestor was Hugh Scott. I have a primary record showing he was in Lancaster co. in 1726 and 1729. There are all sorts of things written about him that come from traditional stories that have been repeated so often they have been designated as the authority. It is written so often that Abraham b. 1677 is his son that it "has to be true"; but except for the Lancaster petition I do not find any records on Abraham. I have that he died after his son, Abraham, who is the Abraham in West Nottingham Chester co. It is also claimed that William Scott of Donegal was Hugh's son and a church history shows they did both attend Donegal church. William had a son also named Abraham who I believe was a Revolutionary officer. The Scott puzzle is little pieces of blue sky that must fit together somehow. I was hoping to get a few more pieces from these wills. Thanks again and a Happy Thanksgiving. Pat Sheldon

Thank you!!! I will have to check to see if this matches what I found. I found one website for the church looking for the River Brethren of which my Isaac Davis was a member. Am new to list, hope I do this right! My Lancaster Co. ancestors are the Kissell family. My grandmother (3x gr) was Susan Kissell who married George Bricker in Franklin Co. Am lead to believe that my Susan was the dau. of Frederick and Catherine (Stair) Stoehr Kissell, who was probably born in Lancaster Co. Am going to plunge right into this - hope it's okay. Am trying to find the baptismal records for the children of Frederick and Catherine Kissell. Some of their children were born in Franklin Co., but some of them were born in Lancaster Co. Can anyone tell me if the baptismal records can be accessed online? Thank You, Mary

I am new to the list and hope to post several messages here. My first: Is there an online data base where you can search for will under surnames? In particular the years 1729 when Lancaster Co was formed to 1752 when Berks Co was formed. I've been to the official Lancaster Co site, and several others, but I am not finding anything, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. Thanks in advance. Karen JENTER Michigan
The Church of Brethren site and their list is a good place for background on this church. http://www.cob-net.org/docs/groups.htm#UnitedBrethren Pat S. -----Original Message----- From: Donna Heller Zinn [mailto:djzinn@pa.net] Sent: Monday, November 21, 2005 12:58 PM To: PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PALANCAS] Re: United Brethren Sites Thanks so much all you fellow listers who've provided sites which contain information on the United Brethren Church.
