I am researching John REED born in 1816 in PA. John REED was the son of David REED, born 1774 in Lancaster County, PA and Elizabeth GLENN, born 1794. David Reed's father was John REED, born 1744 in Lancaster County. Please contact me if you are also researching this family. Thank you, Sharon, Sharon_ra@msn.com.
Hi, Pat. You might want to try posing the question to the folks on _TheShipsList-L@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:TheShipsList-L@rootsweb.com) There are a bunch of very knowledgeable, helpful listers there. Good luck. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! Dot Michael Dresher, PA
Thank you. That helps. The important thing to genealogy is that Hugh Scott was master of a ship from Glasgow docking in America 29 years before a man by the same name was living in Lancaster co. Could be an explanation why family tradition puts the Lancaster Hugh Scott in America before 1700. Still guess and by golly. -----Original Message----- From: dingoal@aol.com [mailto:dingoal@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, December 18, 2005 11:40 AM To: PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] Custom House list Here is my translation for what it is worth. Roger, At the moment I am unable to think of a Lancaster County Cemetery by that name, but there maybe one. I do know of a very old Graybill Cemetery located near Richfield, Juniata co., PA, should all else fail. Some of the very early Graybill,s moved into that area. Let us hope some one has a Lanc. Co. Cemetery book and will assist you. D. Ernest Weinhold Lancaster Co. Penna. Dutchman DEWeinhold@juno.com
According to Churches and Cemeteries of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, there is a Graybill Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Penn Township. The history states it was started around 1861 (I think they mean the church was started then). The Graveyard inscriptions have been transcribed and are at the Lancaster County Historical Society and the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. There is also a Graybill Family Graveyard in East Hempfield Township. It is also called the Church of the Brethren Cemetery and is located on the south side of Stevens Street, west of East Petersburg. The Graveyard inscriptions have been transcribed and are at the Lancaster County Historical Society and the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. Another Graybill Family Cemetery is listed as being in Penn Township on the South side of Fairview Road. According to the text, there were "six illegible gravestones by the side of the road in 1982. Probably a Graybill Family Cemetery. Not shown on 1864 or 1875 maps." There is also a former Graybill/Bomberger Graveyard in East Drumore Township near Graybilltown or Conowingo Mill. By 1900 there was no inscribed stones and the site was in poor condition. In Manheim Township, there is another Graybill Graveyard. It is north of Quarry Road, near the Little Conestoga Creek. There were five gravestones in a walled enclosure along a farm road as of 1981. The Graveyard inscriptions have been transcribed and are at the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. A Graybill/Grebiel/Grebill Graveyard is located in West Earl Township east of Maple Avenue and north of Leola. It is shown on 1855, 1864 and 1875 maps. As of 1981, there were a few remaining stoned behind a broken wall. Hope that helps a bit!
