Sue, I don't know anything about your family but want to tell you that there is an excellent Historical Society in Manheim - it is separate from the Lancaster one - and they were very helpful to me about a branch of my family that was there - you might contact them. Here is their website: http://www.manheimpa.com/town2.html Good luck! Jan
Hello, I thought I would post my BROWN family information. The little that I have anyway. Might someone have any information or thoughts about 'where to look' for this elusive family? Jacob BROWN, b. 1758, unknown where d. 1842, age 84 Buried: Unknown Will: 1831, probated 1843 (I have a copy of the Will: Executors, Jacob's neighbors, Abraham Lehman and John Musser. One of the Witnesses: John Thome. I can not read the name of the 2nd witness. ) Wife: Catharine ___?____. 1759-1843 Unknown where born and where buried. Children: Dates of birth, death and marriages unknown. 1. John Brown, died by 1831. His Widow: Mary _______ 2. Jacob Brown 3. William Brown 4. James Brown 5. Isaac Brown-----he was bequeathed the family Bible (What a find that would be!) 6. Catharine Brown married Thomas Dehart 7. Mary Brown married John Frantz This BROWN family lived in Manheim (town of) at least by 1811 as they are listed on the Manheim Ground Rent Ledger and still owned the land in 1842 when Jacob died. Land: West North Charlotte--2nd block. Death record is from the Zion Evangelical Luthern Church, Manheim (borough) Church Records, 1849-1922. Might they be buried here also? I am trying to track down the children and grandchildren of Jacob and Catharine Brown. Next time I am in Lancaster Co. I will look up the Land Records in the Court House. I am also hoping this information might just help someone else in their researching and I will post further finds. Thank you. Sue
Hello, Might anyone have any information about John FRANTZ, birth and death dates, probably birth late 1700's and death mid 1800's. John FRANTZ married Mary BROWN of Manheim, Lancaster Co., PA. I am really looking for the dates for this elusive BROWN family of Manheim, (town of). Thank you. Sue
Hello, Might anyone have any information on the birth and death dates for Thomas DEHART who married Catharine BROWN, of Manheim, Lancaster Co., PA. This would probably be the late 1700's for his birth and early to mid 1800's for his death. I am really looking for the Catharine BROWN information and trying to track down her elusive BROWN family, of Manheim. If anyone is researching this DEHART family I would appreciate any hints/information. Thank you. Sue
Seeking parents for Jane (Jean) Cunningham. She was married to Robert Patton (d. Mar 1776) and John McMillan (d. 16 Mar 1790) in Martic Twp. She died in 1807, leaving her family Bible to Cunningham Patton. Richard Aurand Sherer
Request any information about Frederick WAGNER, a priest in Lewistown who built the Sacred Heart Church. He was born in Columbia 30 April 1876 and is buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Columbia in 1924.
Thanks very much for the info. There are several John Mann's - nothing is easy - but I have some places to look. I'm from way out of the area (SD), so orphan's court records, and all they include, are new to me and I need to do some exploring. Joan Shurtliff
To the list: How far back to birth records go for Lancater County? Thank you. Dianna
they start in 1906...but there is a small (ioncomplete) set of vital records from about 1852 to 1855....Most of the birth records would have to be gleaned from the church records (or tombstones if they are Amish or Mennonite). You can try checking the Penn State Digital library, they have the Columbia Spy on-line from about 1845 to 1870, as part of their Civil War collection. http://apps.libraries.psu.edu/digital/projects.cfm?type=newspapers You could try checking for either the marriage or the death of John. I did a quick check last night and there were several references to a John S. Mann, who was Vice President of the Columbia Market but this was in 1870 after your John had died. The same John Mann was involved in a fight with the Market Manager. There were a lot of Mann references (about 140) so I didn't go through all of them. While the Columbia Spy was the only Lancaster County newspaper, there were also newspapers for other parts of the state that might interest some of you. Tim - Thanks for the look. This is proving something of a conundrum. Also, John Mann died some kind of untimely death between 1856-1860. John and Clementine Mann's youngest son was born in 1856 and she is a widow with three sons in the 1860 census. She (she died in the 1890s) and her sons are buried in the Washingtonboro cemetery, but he doesn't seem to be buried with them. Joan Shurtliff

I am searching for the parents of George Most. He stated that he was born in October of 1833 in Pennsylvania of parents born in Germany. I have searched the 1840 PA census several times and have isolated 4 families with male children between the ages of 6 to 9. However none of these families exist in the 1850 census. I understand the fact that no state records of births were kept at this time. Would tax or property records be of any value in this time frame? I shall now attempt to locate the baptismal records and thus need help locating Catholic Churches in or near Ephrata township in the 1830 - 1840 time frame. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug Hilby
Pete, I'm sorry, but my two books (listed below) have no entries for Appel, male or female, marriages or baptisms. I don't have any death records. Is the book still available for sale somewhere, or did you get a single copy on ebay or something similar? Karen
I am looking for information on this family. Johann Adam Appel and his father Thomas arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Ranier in 1749. Between 1749 and 1783 Johan Adam Appel spent some time in Lancaster County. By 1783 Johann Adam Appel bought land from the State of North Carolina in Guilford County. Specifically - what was Johann Adam Appel's wife's name? (Probably married mid 1760s). Also: Where did his Father, Thomas, die and when (probably mid 1760s)? I have been unable to locate a marriage record for him or a birth/baptism record for his children listed below in bold type. Their places of birth are not verified, so it is quite possible that they should read Lancaster County instead. One of the Children, SUSANNAH CATHERINE APPEL is thought by some researchers to have been born in Lancaster around 1762. I would lie to obtain a copy of her birth/baptism record. I recently obtained a book from 1986 containing pictures of the citizens of Ephrata, Akron, Earl, and Schoeneck. Most of the information is from 1885 to 1930 and almost all have full names. Most pictures are of school classes, sports teams, directors of corporations, and local businesses. The book does not have an index, but I am willing to do lookups with a name and approx. age/date combo. I found my great grandmother's parents with this book. The name of her primary school and a map let me to the correct census page. She is not indexed in Ancestry, but her name is clearly on the census. Thanks, Michelle
to Betty: I have found some information on the family you were requesting but somehow sent it to the wrong address...please send me your e mail address offline and I will send to you. thanx Joe Wolfe
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lizzie REIFSNYDER which was taken at the J. T. Reading Studio in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Lizzie looking to be in her early teens at the time. I believe that she may be a member of the same family you've entered on Rootsweb. I'm hoping to locate someone from her family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
