I lost a hard drive about a year ago and along with it some notes that I am trying to validate. One of them is the marriage of Valentine Pence to Catherine Oberlin. The note I have says George Valentine BentZ married (Anna Maria) Catherine Oberlin 19 Jan 1741 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. (The Anna Maria part may not have been in this record. This couple's oldest son was John Adam Benz (Pence) born to Valentine and "Maria Cath Oberlin" Benz 15 Jan 1744 and baptized at Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchburg, now in Berks County, Pennsylvania, but I believe (then in Lancaster County. I am looking for the source of my note regarding the marriage of Valentine Pence and Catherine Oberlin. I think this was a from a church record, but I can't find it in any of files. Can anyone help? From Churches and Cemeteries of Lancaster Co.: Lancaster Moravian Church, also called St. Andrew's Moravian Church, SW corner of West Orange and Market Streets, Lancaster City. 1746 - Rev. Nyberg, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, under Moravian influence, led a large faction out of the Lutheran Church to build a "union church" at West Orange and Market Streets. Organized as a mission by the Moravians. 1966/67 - Congregation moved to suburban Manheim Twp, Site 24 (Lancaster Moravian Church, 1450 Eden Road, Manheim Twp). Original church records, 1730-1919; held in the Moravian Archives, Bethlehem, PA. Records, 1730-1821, translated from German by Mrs. Luther Heisey, including baptisms (1730-1821) and marriages (1742-1821); at Church office and at Lanc Co Historical Society. Records, 1743-1875, translated by Kenneth Felker, including baptisms (1821-1875), marriages (1743-1875), burials (1744-1875); at Church office and at Lanc Co Historical Society. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phyllis Grasser" <b.b@cyberback.com> To: <PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 28, 2006 9:09 PM Subject: [PALANCAS] church information > I was wondering if anyone on the list has any information about a church > called St. Andrew's Moravian church? I was wondering if anyone on the list has any information about a church called St. Andrew's Moravian church? My understanding is that it was a off shoot from Trinity Lutheran. Are there any records that exist for this church? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Phyllis
Good evening new to the list and need sks to help me if possible. I have been seeking the above book but find that it is out of print and I would appreciate a look up since I cannot locate a copy. In the index I understand that there are the following names GROH and GAINES. Would someone please tell me who these people are using their first names as the index only gave the surnames. I have a brick wall trying to find Thomas Gain (es) b 1801 and Maria Gertrude Kroh (Groh) born 1798. They were married either in Pa (which I believe to be so). Maria was living in Hanover, Pa. I have only found a reference to a court records when Maria's father died and did not leave a will. This paper stated "Polly wife of Thomas Gain" Her father was George Ludwig Kroh of Hanover, Pa. I live in Fl and can only get to Pa once year if I am lucky so would appreciate any help, and thanks in advance. Mary in Fl
This sounds like that church known as Lancaster Moravian church. It and Trinity Lutheran in Lancaster had a common minister in the early days, 1730s, this lasted only a few years. This church is usually referred to as Lancaster Moravian Church. If you want to get in a fight tell a Moravian that Trinity Lutheran was founded in 1730, they will argue that it wasn't founded until later, because of the common minister. There was a Trinity Lutheran in New Holland but I don't think there was a Moravian church nearby. There are very good church records for Lancaster, the Lancaster County Historical Society has them and I imagine that many of the books of church records like "Lancaster County Church Records of the 18th century" include Moravian records. Good luck. To the List: My ggg grandparents Jacob Lindemuth and Barbara Ziegler were members of the Maytown Evangelical Lutheran church. I am trying to find out if my gg grandmother Fannie Lindemuth married John H. Brenner in that church in 1843 and also if their children may have been baptized in the church between the years 1844-1859. THank you.
RE: LEININGER, LININGER - PA, MD (Leighninger, Leninger, Leinger, Linger, Linninger) I am looking for researchers of this lineage who would like to share, compare, maybe fill in some blank spaces and attempt to knock down a few brick walls. I do not have a lot of early history making solid connections. The family arrived in Philadelphia, early 1700's, settled in Chester Co, PA (became Lancaster and York Counties). Various members migrated into what became Cumberland Co, PA (later Bedford, Franklin, Mifflin, Northumberland and Perry Counties). Are there researchers who are of the lineage who migrated into Franklin and Somerset Counties, PA, along with Allegany and Garrett Counties, MD?
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Helen N. KENNARD which was taken at the Ernst Studio in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Helen likely about 1-2 years old at the time it was taken. In addition to her name someone has noted that she is "daughter of Geo & Mary NELSON KENNARD" on the back of the photograph. I believe I've found the family in the various census records beginning in 1900 living in Little Britain, PA, as follows: George B. KENNARD, age 46, born Oct 1865, married 1 year, born in PA, parents born in PA, a Farmer Mary E.
