    3. Hi Sue, The earliest church in Martic is Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church, founded in 1742. Chestnut Level in nearby Drumore was formed in 1717. You might also check the Conestoga Area Historical Society web page for the article on Martic Township from Ellis and Evans, "History of Lancaster County" (published 1883), as well as other items on Martic Twp. 1. Re: [PALANCAS] church information
    2. From Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century Volume 4 by F. Edward Wright, published by Willow Bend Books, Westminster, Md. 2000. Moravian Churches listed are: Donegal/Mount Joy Moravian Lancaster Moravian-In the early 1740s the Lutheran Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church at Lancaster, Laurenz Nyberg, favored the Moravians. When some of the Lutherans took active measures to force him out, his supporters built a new church (St. Andrew's) up the street. Believing he retained responsibility for all Lutherans at Lancaster, Nyberg began anew register that year, entering in it the records for both congregations. When the Moravians organized as a separate denomination in 1748/9 they continued to worship in their new church but retained the old Lutheran register. The original of it is in the Moravian Archives at Bethlehem, a translation of the first part was published by Smith and Weiser as an appendix in Trinity Lutheran Church Records, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Vol. I. Warwick Moravian Lititz Moravian Muddy Creek Moravian I hope this answers your questions. Yvonne

    2. From Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Vol.4 by F. Edward Wright, published by Willow Bend Books, Westminster, Maryland, 2000. MORAVIANS Missionaries from the Society of United Brethren, whom the English called "Moravians" entered Pennsylvania in 1742 to work among the Indians, and they established a base of operations for that purpose at Bethlehem. Observing a dearth of ministers among the German population, the Moravians began circulating among them also, holding Christian revivals and providing services of baptism, marriage, and burial. The Moravian missionaries presented themselves as pan-denominational. Supported by their own economy around Bethlehem, their preachers declined to take money for their services. Their activity caused much concern among the ordained clergy of the German Reformed and Lutheran churches, and it significantly increased the entropy among the German congregations. By 1748 it became mutually obvious that the Moravians should desist in their attempts at ecumenicism and declare themselves to be a new, separate denomination. The congregations concerned were asked at that time to choose whether they wanted to continue as Reformed, or Lutheran, or as part of the new Moravian denomination. Yvonne

    1. Biographical Annals of Lancaster Co., PA.
    2. For those searching the Biographical Annals of Lancaster Co., PA., there is an index of names posted at: http://www.pa-roots.com/~lancaster/bioannals/index.html I do not know just how much longer it will be listed as they have moved to a new location. http://www.pa-roots.org/data/index.php?100 You can go into each county and do a search on the name you are looking for. I am posting the biographical sketches from the book into the Lancaster site as time permits. Hoffman name: all are posted. Eckman name: all but 1 are posted. Brenner name: none listed, just Brennerman's Kauffman name: about 9 more to be posted. If you are looking for a name but it is not listed, remember, only those who paid to have their's in the book got in. No sign they did not live in the area. Another thing to check out is that if you know the married name, sometimes the biographical sketch is list under that name -- not by it's self. Read all the surname sketches you are looking for as they may be a father of whom you are looking for or a brother. I am willing to check out the book for a name, if you can give me something to go on. Millie Mowry in KS.

    1. Wolford - Wohlford -Woolford etc discussion
    2. Hello - For the past two weeks I have been trying to get a Wolford Wohlford Woolford etc discussion group together at _www.genealogycommunity.com_ (http://www.genealogycommunity.com) . We have the use of the "Ancestral Digs" discussion room at that website Tuesdays beginning at 10:00 pm. eastern time. The first week I had two guests and we discussed Conrad Wolford of Somerset Co PA. Tonight I had no visitors and left the discussion room after 30 minutes. I have a literal ton of Wolford Wohlford etc material and also used to publish a family newsletter. I have several CDs of info and county histories on CD. If someone wants me to do a lookup and then present the info at a discussion, the followiing week I can do that. I have no financial interest in this website. The use of it is absolutely free. The only thing you need to do is to register. This will not generate any spam. Our discussion room is for genealogy only. It is not a "meat" room. No stalking will be permitted. I have the option to "block" anyone not adhering to the rules. Our goal is maintaining a comfortable discussion room where you can feel safe and hopefully break that brick wall. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Any ideas on doing this weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly. Thanks Jim Avery Quechee VT

    3. It would sure be nice to put a name to the request. In the biographical history of Lancaste rCounty by Alex Harris there are NO Gaines or Gain listed but one Groh , C.L. elected a County Commissioner in 1831 also none by name of Kroh here. In Biographical annals of Lancaster Couinty there are none of any of your names in the Index in vol II there are two listings for the name of Gaines, none for Groh and none for Kroh In vol 3 none of any of the names in vol 4 again nothing I would say these would not be sources for your search for your names Joe Wolfe
