    2. Yvonne: This is very confusing because there are so many Philip and Susanna Brenner's. My ggg grandfather Michael Brenner was the son of Johann Philip Brenner and Anna Maria Singhaas. My Michael had a sister Susanna, an aunt Susanna and he married a Susanna. Last week I received a copy of the gravestones for my ggg grandfather Michael Brenner and for his wife Susanna. Those were the dates that they showed on her grave. Thank you for your reply. 3. Re: Catherine Brenner, dau. of Johann Philipp Brenner and Eva Maria Singhaas. I have done extensive research on this family, and I believe Catherine Brenner (1785-1813) was married to Jacob Eichholtz (1777-1842), son of G. Matthaeus Eichholtz. This is supported by numerous probate records, baptism records, cemetery records, etc. I will be glad to discuss offline if you are interested. 3. Hi, Here are the definitions provided by the Chester County archives. They're generally the same for other 18th century counties in Pennsylvania. There are four categories of taxables: landholder – held land by lease or deed (PA taxed the occupant) inmate – married or widowed, landless (contract labor) freeman – single, free man at least 21 years of age (as of 1718). Had to be out of servitude or apprenticeship at least 6 months at time of tax. Taxation of freemen was inconsistent. It appears that before 1755 single men living with their parents were not taxed. nonresident landowner – owner of unseated (unoccupied) land Brian

    3. Darlene. Your E-mail is encouraging to say the least, and I thank you. This research has been going on for a number of generation,S with no answer,S. Even if your suggestion,s do not "pain out" I am happy to note that some one, namely YOU is showing an interest in assisting THE cause. No, I have not been to the Miffintown (Hist. Soc.) : one reason I always figured Noah THE Researcher in than part of the state (and of course of the Acker/Landis family) would have "milked it dry". Of course, Noah like we, was human also. I (and other,s) have visited the MOntg.. Co. Hist. Soc. a number of times and Bucks Co. including the Montg. Co Courthouse.\ As you may know, being of the Mennonite faith, their children were not as infants, baptized, hence very few Church record,s are found. My mother's Martha Elizabeth Landis Weinhold , father was born in the S.W. corner )really just out side on the left, a small farm) of Thompsontown, back in the latter part of the 1800,s and after he and his brother,s move back to Lancaster, William Landis and his wife Catherine Aucker also moved back to Lanc. co., PA. In year,s past The Jun. Co. Landis family has had their family reunion in the East Salem area. What is so strange is that MY Landis ancestor,s seemingly have no "connection" with the Landis/es' of Montg. or Bucks Counties nor of course with the ones who settled in Lancaster county, PA. I have a much younger person (a Landis m'd. to a Landis) assisting me and I just may share what you have shared with me. We will work on it. The Juniata (Mennonite)District Historical Society is not only an interesting place for research but has LOT,s if information for researcher,s, near Richfield. Who knows, maybe your suggestion may lead to a answer we are seeking. Again, thank you Darlene D. Ernest weinhold DEWeinhold@juno.com Manheim. PA

    3. Hello. I grew up near East Salem, Juniata County but moved away when I married. I grew up on a farm. Our neighbors to the north were the Landis' and to the south, the Auker/Acker family. The Aukers were Mennonite and the Landis' (at least the ones I knew) were not. Both were wonderful neighbors. Have you tried contacting the Juniata County Historical Society in Mifflintown for information? I have found some very helpful people there. The first is a photograph of Harry KREIDER and his wife. The photograph was taken at the Aller's Gallery in Lancaster, probably sometime in the 1880's with the couple appearing to be in their 20's or 30's. The second is a photograph of Elva KREIDER and was taken at the Lease Studio in Lancaster. I think the second photograph was probably taken in the 1890's with Elva looking to be about 1 year old at the time. Based on limited research, I believe that this is likely a photograph of Harry KREIDER son of Isaac & Mary KREIDER who were living with their family in Leacock, PA during the 1880 census with records providing the following information: Isaac KREIDER, age 43, born PA, a Farmer, parent born PA Mary KREIDER, wife, age 40, born PA, Keeping House, parents born PA Anna Mary KREIDER, dau, age 18, born PA, at Home Harry KREIDER, son, age 13, born PA, at Home Susie E. I've no idea how they all may be connected, though I know that the handwritten notes on all were made by the same hand so it is certain that they belonged together at some point in the past. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their care. 1. Re: [PALANCAS] Brickerville Academy
    2. James Stokes
    3. Hi Nancy, If your confident this ancestor attended Brickerville Academy then there is a good chance he lived within three or four miles of Brickerville. It took about an hour to walk or ride a horse three or four miles and its likely he wouldn't have spent more than an hour going to school each day, he probably lived much closer. If you know when this person was born then check the index to the federal census after their birth, to see where people with that name lived around Brickerville. Geography is an important clue when doing genealogy, people didn't move around much when the means of transportation was walking or riding a horse. If you know who he married and his wife's maiden name then you can check the census for both names to further narrow the search. The important point is to constantly try to narrow the focus from Pennsylvania to Lancaster County to a township, that is a successful method.
