I am still trying to get a live time discussion group going at _www.genealogycommunity.com_ (http://www.genealogycommunity.com) We meet in the Ancestral Digs room on Tuesday evenings at 10 pm eastern time. Anyone attending will need to register at the site, obtain a password and screen name. This is just a formality and does not generate spam. There is no cost involved to use this site. I do not have any financial interest in this website. My interest is only in getting a bunch of Wolford Wohlfords etc. together for enjoyable discussion of our ancestors. Any questions, you may email me here or at _GCHWohlford@aol.com_ (mailto:GCHWohlford@aol.com) . Sincerely, Jim Avery Quechee VT

My son, Lt Col. Christopher E. Bailey, is serving in Iraq; when I saw him last in Virginia in February 2006, he had with him a small book, entitled "Strength for Service to God and Country" that he was taking with him to Iraq. The inscription inside read: Charles E. Aulenbach Gleaners Sunday School Class of Hope Evangelical Church Eprata, PA August 17, 1945 Can someone identify this person? Rolene Kiesling, Groveland, CA
My Liebrich/Leebrick connections all begin in Lancaster county in 1754, with the family's arrival from Germany in September of that year. The first few years were spent in Lancaster, but when Baron Stiegel's glass factory opened up in Manheim, the family moved up there for support. Wives and in-laws of that first Liebrich generation are Franks, Cassel, Peters, Mohr, Swentzell, Urban (Erben) and Eberle. I've been able to trace the Liebrichs back several hundred years in Germany, and I'd like to fill in some gaps that still exist. I'd be happy to share info with any one with information on these Lancaster county lines. Dave Leebrick Farm Kid at Heart

Hi, I have an Elizabeth MELLINGER, born 10-9-1808 who married in 1832 Moses Fetter. They both lived in Lancaster County, PA. I am trying to find who her parents and siblings were. Hopefully someone is able to help me. Thank You, Lisa

My cousin is in possession of a framed watercolor and on the back is written "by Charles Murry Brown, a student at the McCurdy Art School, Maytown PA, 1829". Can anyone tell me about the McCURDY ART SCHOOL or Charles Murry BROWN? He was my great-great grandfather. I appreciate any information you can provide. Charlie
At http://www.pa-roots.org/data/list.php?31, look up the biographical sketch of Capt. Philip L. Sprecher, who led a very interesting life, both in the military and private life. Read how he captured John Frankford, Pennsylvania's most desperate horse thief; he was largely instrumental in breaking up the notorious Buzzard gang, and worked the case of James E. Pannell, the wife murderer, as well as his military career. Millie Mowry
Good Morning All I have been collecting info on the Caldwells for a number of years and now I am trying to put it together. Unfortunately in my early collecting I was not so carefull about identifying source. Here is where you might be able to help me. I have been provided a number of pages from a family history book which I am know trying to identify. IF I am reading the signature correctly on the note attached it is form Sally Comer. Pages 130-135 discuss "The Caldwell Ancestors of Allie Aletha Flinn" Pages 135 and 136 discuss "The Caldwells and the Calhouns" Page 139 discusses "The Carpenter Ancestors of Allie Aletha Flinn" Then there are a number of single pages discussing "James Caldwell, Jr","Janet Reed", "James Caldwell", and finally "Mary Calhoun". I hope this may strike a chord with someone and they can identify this book for me. Thanks in advance. Doug Burnett Satellite Beach FL
Different countries adopted the calendar change at different times. Generally anti-Catholic countries were slow to adopt the change because the changes were initiated by the Pope. About 1814, the Russians were suppose to meet the English to battle Napolean but since the Russians had not adopted the calender change, they were 11 days late. Jim Judy <llamabase@dejazzd.com> wrote: What countries were affected by this change in the calendar? Thank you. Hi Pam, This is a tricky period in historical and genealogical research because the change over from the Old to the New Calendar was in 1752. People went to bed on the evening of Oct 3, 1752 and woke up the next morning, on Oct. 14, 1752. The British parliment had changed from the Old to the New Calendar and had chosen Oct. 3 as the date of the transformaton. They had decided to change because the old calendar was off by 11 days and this may have impacted farmers and when they planted their crops. (I suspect that most farmers were already aware the calendar was off and were just planting earlier). In addition, the beginning of the year was changed from March to January. People should be careful when copying records and resist the temptation to modernize them. If you find a date of November 2, 1752 you should copy it as such, if you find it 11/2/1752 then copy it that way. Its an interesting question whether the minister at Trinity Lutheran Church was aware of the Act ! of Parliment or if he was already using the New Calendar because it had been adopted in Germany earlier. An example, we celebrate George Washington's birthday on Feb. 22, (or we used to), in fact he was born Feb. 11th, the difference is the calendar change. His church record, if there is one, should read Feb. 11, 1731/32 or 12/11/1731/32 because February was the last month of the year before 1752. The double dating of the year was given for months between January and March. Who knows if people who reprinted or transcribed these records were aware of the calendar change or if they tried to convert these dates. We should copy these dates as we find them and not convert 11 to November since it could also have been February. Jim http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacahs/index.htm Pam Pearson wrote: A couple of clarifications: 1) The wife of Johann Philip Brenner was actually Eva Maria Singhaas. Cemetery records (Worner) give her name as Anna Maria, but I have visited her gravesite and the name on the stone is clearly Eva Maria. This is also consistent with her father's will and misc. church records. 2) Johann Philipp Brenner, father of Michael Brenner, was b. 2 Dec 1752 per his baptism record at Trinity Lutheran. His cemetery record is recorded as "born 11.1.1752", which should be considered suspect because of the age and deterioration of the stones.
