Hello Kerm and Fellow Listers: I'm afraid to say that you're not going to find an actual Death Certificates during this time. Death Records in most counties in Pennsylvania were kept from 1852-1855 and then again from 1893-1906. For the years between these times, you will have to find either church records or bible records... or if you're lucky enough to have a person who was prominent in the society - to find a death notice or obituary in the newspaper. Large wordy obituaries did not come into being until the early 1900's - except in the case of a very prominent person or one who was involved in politics ... or a soldier of one of the major wars. Best Wishes on your search! If these lists are from Heritage Quest then they aren't comprehensive lists but they might better be described as Militia Fines from selective townships in Lancaster County. They are lists compiled by the various captains of the different townships but don't include all of Lancaster County. In addition, the American Revolution effectively ended in 1782, the treaty was signed in 1784 so these lists are primarily post revolutionary war. Jim --------------------------------- Yahoo! What records are available (and where are they located) for the death of John C. Rittenhouse who died on 31 Jan 1885 in Lancaster City? Thanx. Kerm
You get a life, requesting tax lists has noting to do with genealogy. Bobby robert.e.troup@verizon.net
try the Lancaster County Archives. I think they have deaths from that early....chances of there being parents included in the information is problematic at best. also the family histroy centers have microfilmed copies of these death records. Joe Wolfe

I could hardly believe my eyes this morning on the number of request for the lists I received. Where is the moderator? Why not ask for the lists directly to the person that made the offer and NOT to the list, I don't need to know who ordered copies of the list. Thank you. Bobby robert.e.troup@verizon.net
The Lancaster County Historical Society has a Rittenhouse genealogy by Milton Rubincam. I've always assumed they had it because the Rittenhouses of Lancaster County were related to the Rittenhouse family of Philadelphia. You might want to check Lancaster County's on-line card catalog to get the exact title. Its on their web page at http://lancasterhistory.org Jim kerm goda <kermgoda@epix.net> wrote: I'm trying to determine the parents of John C. RITTENHOUSE, born in PA on 5 Apr 1802. He and his immediate family lived in Lancaster County from about 1830 until he died in 1885 in Lancaster City. If I could determine when and where he was baptized or maybe his middle name, I might then be able to determine his parents's names? I'd like to correspond with anyone descended from John C. or anyone interested in the Rittenhouse folks of Lancaster County. Thanx.
