    3. I looked at the county formation map on http://www.pagenweb.org/map/index.html. So since Berks County wasn't a county in 1738 then New Amithi would be located in the unsettled lands that are traceable to Lancaster County. Does this make sense to anyone? Has a book of 'ghost towns of PA' ever been published? Kathy

    1. Berks County
    2. Hi,I was just reading about Amity Twp. and I have a question. I am researching the Detrick's ,DeTurk's and Deithrich Family in Pa. I recently read that the DeTurk's came to Oley,Twp., Berks County In 1710 or 1711. If Berks county was apart of Philadelphia County until later in the 1700's,where is the best place to start searching? My gggrandfather was supposedly born in 1809 Lancaster County, but I am having trouble finding Detrick's in Lancaster county, but I have located them in Berks. Can someone help me out here? I am planning a trip to Pa.,in June Thanks, Susie

If there is sufficient interest from AOLers and Non-AOLers we could do a chat on _www.genealogycommunity.com_ (http://www.genealogycommunity.com) where I also host. Thanks Jim in Vermont

    2. Searching for a Margaret, whose surname probably began with an R. She married a John Smith sometime before 1750, either in Lancaster or Chester Counties of Pennsylvania. They moved to northern York County before 1753. And a William Smith, who was probably a relative of previously mentioned John Smith, who married an Elizabeth E., possibly about the same time period. Similarities in childrens names are George and Elinor or Eleanor. Thank You Judy Smith/Colorado -- "Imagine" - John Lennon

    3. Thanks for the lead on West Earl Township. Next time I go to the library, I'll see if I can find census, other data, haven't worked on this line for a long time. I am finding the PA is difficult to research even for a relatively recent death near Pittsburgh. Have so many lines from different counties there, this the only one from Lancaster. Alice

Many of the early Swedes along the Delaware adopted aliases because they had no real surnames--they used Patronymic names. Of course, not all MINKs descend from Pal Palsson MINK and there are German and Jewish and other MINKs who arrived in PA at various times from various places...but there are quite a few early MINKs who do descend from Pal Palsson MINK of New Sweden. 3. Do you have any record of a Minnich family in the southern part of Lancaster County? One of my multi-great uncles, Thomas Mortimer Collins of Martic Twp, married Cassandra Minnick, who was born in Harford County, MD. They were married in 1847, and Cassandra obligingly lived in Pennsylvania until 1906, so I was able to obtain her death certificate. It names Jacob Minnick and Elizabeth Porter as her parents.
