    1. PA Patterson...
    2. robert patterson
    3. Hello Group, I am researching Francis Patterson, father of Col. Robert Patterson, of Bedford/Cumberland counties. Robert was one of the founders of Lexington KY. Francis remained in PA until about 1787, when the family migrated to the claims in Lexington. I have seen much information in KY about Robert, for obvious reasons and very little about his family. Specifically, my interest is in his younger half brother William. William and Robert were partners in KY and worked together to make the KY claims ready for the rest of the family. I suspect William is a direct ancestor, as he is in the same areas of KY as my ancestor Jonathan Patterson. I have read Conover's book, "Concerning the Forefathers" and I am looking for new material on this subject. Any help or dialog on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards, Robert L. Patterson, Jr. Robs

    2. Alan Buckingham
    3. Hello All, I was recently driving up 896 to Lancaster and I saw a well preserved old building which may have been a church/meeting house or school house and I was wondering if some knew what it was since there was no sign. It was near Christiana, PA and was right next to Andrew’s Bridge Church – on the right side if you are going north on 896. Alan -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Hi Seeing your email on the octorra cemetery reminded me that I'd been meaning to email you. Over a year ago, there was a project to put on CD the genealogy information from the Journal/Newsletter of the (I think) Southern Lancaster Hist Soc. Do you know if they ever finished the project? Checked their website but there is now no mention of publications. Josette Maxwell Boone NC .

    2. Thanks for the great description! I do have the transcriptions of the stones I was looking for, but I want to go down to get photos of them. Your information and description of the area does help a lot. Thanks again! "A Volunteer for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"

    2. Joe ~ Thanks so much. I get down to Bartville/Nine Points area at least twice a month so I'll definitely travel 372 the next time I go. I found Middle Octorara in the ADC Lancaster Co mapbook, and it looks like it is on the south side of 372. On the north side, a little to the west, it says Octorara Cemetery. I will definitely check that out the next time I'm down that way, as it "matches" what the SLCHS website says, "this cemetery is located west of the church-yard." Regarding "no church records known to exist", it would figure!! Thanks again for your help! Wanda "A Volunteer for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"

    3. I visited this cemetery within the past two weeks. It is across the road from the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church. The church is very plain on the outside and although it is no longer used as a church, it is obvious that someone is maintaining the building and the cemetery. The cemetery is not overly large and is located on a hill. I was able to do a quick walk-through of the cemetery in under a half hour. Most of the stone are readable. I think either the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society or the Lancaster County Historical Society should have transcriptions of this cemetery. 1. OCTORARA UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY
    2. I'm trying to find the location of the Octorara United Presbyterian Cemetery. I believe it is in Bart Twp., but not sure. I know of the Middle and Upper Octorara Cemeteries but not this one. I found some names I was searching for, in this cemetery, listed on the Southern Lancaster Co. Historical Society website, but it doesn't give the location. There was no contact info, or a name, of the submitter. Here is some of the info it does have: "This cemetery is located west of the church-yard. It is enclosed with a stone wall with the entrance gate in the middle of the eastern wall. From this gate an open drive-way extends westward to the center of the cemetery. Several members of Middle Octorara are buried here: among them two Ruling Elders. Our list of burials will begin with the first row of stones to the right as we enter the cemetery. The stones are not placed in as well defined rows as those in the cemeteries of Middle Octorara, but they are nearly enough in line for our purpose, which is not only to record the names of those buried there but also to enable strangers and visitors more easily to locate any desired grave." I also couldn't find a church with this name. I have tried a google search, with no luck and tried various other sites, but no luck on them either. I will email the SLCHS also but don't know if I will get a response from them. If anyone has any information, please let me know. Thanks much, Wanda "A Volunteer for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"

    3. Wanda: according to Churches and Cemeteries of Lancaster Co. Pa. A Compledte Guide ed by A Hunter Rineer Jr. on page 43 it is on the North side of Valley Road (Pa. Rte. 372) it is listed as an associate or Covenanter Church, original United Presbyterian and was founded in 1754. looks like no church records are known to exist accorfding to Rineer. in 1941 it was officiall disbanded by Philadlephia Presbytery. (if there are any records that is where you should write to see about it...unfortunately I have no further info to give you on this... and you are right it is listed as in Bart Twp.... Joe Wolfe

    1. Bear Barr Bair etc. Surname Project
    2. I wanted to let all Bear/Barr/Bair etc researchers know that the Bear Surname DNA-Project website has been updated. We now have results from 34 descendants of this surname representing 14 different Bear/Barr etc family lines. Both Swiss-German and Scotts-Irish lines are represented. Two of the participants are still living in Switzerland. All Barr descendants (of any spelling variation) are welcome to participate. Since my Bair ancestry is from Lancaster and Chester Counties in Pennsylvania, I would particularly welcome participants with ancestry from this area. www.geocities.com/bear_dna_project (note the underscores in the address) Cathi Desmarais, Co-Adminstrator of the project (gggranddaughter of William Bair, 1812-1893, Lancaster and Chester Counties, PA)
