Elizabeth (Lizzie) Frey married Samuel LeFevre Leaman bet. 1848-1850 undoubtedly in Lancaster Co. She was born 1799 and died 1884. She is enumerated with Leaman in 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 censuses in East Lampeter, Lancaster. She is buried with her husband (he died 1890) and his first wife, Barbara Heller (who died in 1848), at Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery. I have a picture of the headstone. Do you know who her parents are? Does anyone? I would recommend the recently published book called "The Warrant Maps of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: Including an Every-name Index" by Geri Gilbert printed in 2005 by Mastof Press containing 100 pages. I purchased my copy at the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society for $32. The book measures 11" X 17" and has a soft cover. It contains reduced images of the land warrant maps for each township in Lancaster County. I would suggest using it in conjunction with a reprint of "Bridgens' 1864 Atlas of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania" and a current ADC or DeLorm map of the county if you want to confirm the current location. The land warrants are referred to in the Lancaster County Deed Books found at the courthouse, but I believe you need to write to the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg in order to get copies of the warrants, surveys, and patents. This is where the new Warrant Maps book is so helpful. It gives the record numbers which are needed to request the copies. The text is very small in the book, so you may need a magnifying glass. The index of the Warrant book lists four entries for Martin Kindig, with his name appearing on the township warrant maps for Pequea, Providence, Strasburg, and West Lampeter. Some things to keep in mind are that one property may show up on more than one township map if it was located near the boundary. Another is that the township maps are for current day townships. Back when the warrants were applied for, the township may have had a different name. Maria
Hi Murray, The STAUFFER name caught my attention as I have them in my line. I just grabbed a notebook and all the info I have in it pretty much stops at Christian STAUFFER. It does say his father was Jacob and mother was Magdalena HESS. Christian married Anna EBY. My info (I got it off the web at a GED com?? in Aug. 2001. So don't know how reliable it is.)states that Christian is buried at Zartman Farm Cemetery near Hammer Creek. Jacob is on the list of great-grandfathers but I'm not sure right now how many greats it is. I have no clue where the rest of my info on Jacob is as I haven't been doing very much genealogy in the past few years. Plus my sister helped me move rooms around and I can't find half of my notes and folders.:-( I'll keep this email handy and if I come across any info I'll pass it along. Hope this helps even a little, tracy --- mstauf <mstauf@comcast.net> wrote: > I am trying to locate the burial site of Jacob Stauffer, b. 1713, d. > 1775 Donegal Twp, immigrated to America 1732, landed in Philadelphia. m.1735 to Magdalena Hess, b.1717, d. 1784. > Jacob had built a mill just north of Lititz (presently Zartman Mill), > which he sold to his son Christian. I am trying to locate the burial site of Jacob Stauffer, b. 1713, d. 1775 Donegal Twp, immigrated to America 1732, landed in Philadelphia. m. 1735 to Magdalena Hess, b.1717, d. 1784. Jacob had built a mill just north of Lititz (presently Zartman Mill), which he sold to his son Christian. Jacob then moved to Donegal Twp and I have located the old mill site that his son Abraham (wife Barbara Hershey) built on Donegal creek, on Trout Run Rd, off Musser Rd. The cemetery should be west of Musser Rd, to the north of the old mill site. I have found the cemetery listed in Rineer book, but I do not know who is buried at this site. Thanks Murray

Would you mind please posting name of publication (and where to locate it) about land warrants and deeds in Lancaster County ? I have several relatives who were married and lived their lives in Warwick Twp from the late 1730's until the mid-1780's. Thanks in advance. Jeannie in NC

Robert Maxwell died in 1752 in Drumore and is shown as holding a land warrant there on a map. I have the publicatoin about Lancaster land warrants to 1742 and deeds to 1750. He doesn't show up. Thus, he got the warrant after 1742. Does anyone have access to information about land warrants in Lancaster County from 1742-1753?? I'm trying to find out when he arrived in Lancaster. Thanks Josette Maxwell Boone NC

Does anyone have a listing or any idea of who is buried at the Musser Rd Graveyard, which is located in East Donegal Twp, west of the junction of Musser Rd and Flory Rd, just north of Trout Run Rd? I tried to find the cemetery location yesterday but did not have any luck. Any comments welcome!!! Thanks Murray
Perhaps someone knows how to direct us to a cemetery location. A Lancaster County cemetery book states it is East Donegal Township: "Former site of Graveyard West of Musser Road Shown on 1864 map, but not visible in April 1982" We would still like to see the area even if there is not a visible cemetery. Does anyone know anything about the cemetery? Directions? What families were buried there? Is it in a field or near a road? Thank you and appreciate any comments The Stauffer's
Here is what is gleaned from "My American Ancestors and their Descendants" 1949 by Edward Bowman Espenshade. John Rudolph Bundeli was b 1-20-1684 in Berne, Switz. The name of Bundely or Bundeli was not found in Switz. by the committee appointed by the L.C.H.S. The name Bunkeli, however, has been found in Switz. and it is believed that this is one of the original forms of Bundeli and that the name has become Binkley in Lanc. Co. Pa. From correspondence mentioned in pamphlet 4, V. 39, LCHS, Johan Rudolph Bondeli and a brother David is known to have been in Germantown as early as 1704. He disposed of his land in the Pequea colony quite early and sometime later, returned to Switz. where he married and had issue. These Bundeli brothers were probably in better circumstances than others of the group; they were gunmakers by trade. Yvonne
I have struggled for hours today trying to separate Johannes BINKLEYs, to see if I could pin down an 1717/1719 immigrant and separate him from the 1736 immigrant of that name. What I have come up with is the idea that people have been mixing up John BINKLEY and John BUNDELY. I confess that for several years I too have been thinking that BUNDELY was a mistranscription from old handwriting, and that any BUNDELY was probably really a BINKLEY, in the Pequea area, especially when mentioned as a neighbor of Felix LANDIS. I'm pulling away from that idea, and here's what I dug out of the sources I have on hand: Confusion as to the immigrant Johannes BINKLEY, whether arrived 1717 or 1736: • The early dates 1717, 1719, 1721 may truly refer to the family recorded as BUNDELY rather than BINKLEY -- the first being Johann Rudolph BUNDELY (Rudolph also being a name not common in the BINKLEY family but common in early Mennonite records). The question is whether BUNDELY is only a misreading of early handwriting. • The 1908 Genealogical Record of Rev. Hans Herr... mentions John R. BUNDELY on p. ix as being with Hans HERR in 1709 in buying 10,000 acres of land on the south side of Pequea Creek, warranted 10 Oct 1710, surveyed 23 Oct 1710. • H. Frank Eshleman also mentions BUNDELY eight times in his Historic Background...Pioneer Settlers...; p. 87 he mentions Hans WEBER having bought the Rudolph BUNDELY tract containing 30 acres in the NE section of the original 6,400 ac. Then, p. 149 says the [Jacob] Taylor [surveyer’s] Papers in the Hist Society at Phila. dated October 16, 1710 show a warrant 8 Oct 1710 to survey and lay out to Rodolph BUNDELY and company ten thousand acres ... twenty miles easterly from Conestoga and near the head of Pequea Creek. • Rupp on p. 85 says John Rudolph BUNDELY got 500 ac adjoining the 10,000 to be laid out to the Palatine Company. • Eshleman p. 152 says King Frederick of Prussia had a “Berne Ambassador” named Von BUNDELI. On p. 193 he says the settlers living in the Pequea Valey in 1712 included Johan Rudolph BUNDELI. On p. 209 he says that in 1715 the commissioners of PA decided to give Harmon RICHMAN of Hamburg Germany a part of the land that was first laid out to John BUNDELI in Strasburg Tp. • J. I. Mombert (1869, edited and expanded by the Iscrupes) names John Rudolph BUNDELY as a pioneer in the Swiss company set up for emigration to America that came to "Conestogo" in 1709, selected a tract of 10,000 acres on the north side of Pequea creek and got a warrant dated 10 Oct 1710, surveyed 23 Oct 1710 and subdivided by the Surveyor General 27 Apr 1711. • Lanc. Co. PA Land Records 1729-1750 and Land Warrants 1710-1742 for 16 Oct 1710 shows Reudolph [sic] BUNDELI as warrant #572 for 1,700 ac near the head of Pequea Creek and John Rudolph BUNDELI as #573 warranting 500 ac with no location given. • Tax records 1718-1726 for areas that ended up in Lanc Co show both John and Joseph BUNDELEY /BUNDELOW /BUNDILE /BUNDLEY paying on *nonresident* land “upon the river Pequea” in 1710, 1718, 1719, 1721. John BUNDILE had 500 acres. In 1750 no one of that name apparently paid taxes in Lanc. Co. The key here is that they were NOT residing on the land -- could have been back in Switzerland by that time, but temporarily holding on to the land, maybe renting it to Mennonites who had actually emigrated. • Presumably there really were BUNDELYs, who appear early as Rudolph and later as Johannes (a son?) and Joseph (a son?) and perhaps people researching Johannes BINKLEY have confused the two names, leading them to conclude that there was a Mennonite Johannes BINKLEY who immigrated in 1717 or 1719. So,does anyone have reliable sources that would contradict this and firmly establish that a John BINKLEY came before 1736? Jan

I think Kurpflaz should be Kurpfalz. It is a place in Heidelberg, Deutschland. See http://www.kurpfalz-tourist.de/ Don't forget to enlarge the pictures at the top of the page. The castle is wunderbar. King George's 1728 Loyalty Oath, a facsimile of the original signatures. I found at BYU Family History Archive, http://www.lib.byu.edu/fhc/, surname Bachman. (Bachman is not a name I'm researching, but Leaman always is.) Hard to read. "Apart from the world: an account of the origins & destinies of various Swiss Mennonites who fled from their homelands in remote parts of the Cantons Zurich, Aargau and Bern as well as Alsace, the Kurpflaz" (sic) Page 97 There may be more, I just haven't looked at enough.
