    3. I appreciated reading the postings about gencircles. Another, more valuable site that may be of interest: www.lancasterhistory.org When searching the Columbia Spy online, I found a sale ad for an ancestor's property. 3. When you figure these lists have about 200 + members with high speed internet access - multiply those 200 + members with everyone else out there doing genealogy...... OH MY. And people still take it as gospel and never cite a source. ----- Original Message ----- From: <FamilyHart@aol.com> To: <PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 3:42 PM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] www gencircles com > > > In a message dated 6/21/2006 11:27:00 A.M. Thanks! Don & Jeanine Hartman --- And, as always, the answer to incorrectly posted data that you have no control over and that the submitter will not correct is to post your correct database beside it in the same place--such as WorldConnect and then if you properly document your file the researchers finding the data in the future can decide for themselves which is accurate and which isn't. The best way to combact inaccurate data is always with the correct data with sources listed. Joan

I agree........not only should we use this resource with caution, we should contribute to it with caution. I found some personal emails of mine cut and pasted into a tree on gencircles. I attempted to contact the person who posted the info, but the email address was dead. The personal email of mine which was posted contained pretty harmless information, but it still made me feel quite uncomfortable. And if it is true that gencircles will not allow you to edit your info, I just wouldn't contribute, period.

    2. Absolutely!!!!!! That is why I got my books and notes out after I read all the info posted. I knew some of it was wrong as soon as I read it. I only use sites/info like this as guide lines--not just to copy. There is someone posting info on one of my family lines for the past several years on various sites that are inaccurate, incomplete or just plain wrong and doesn't seem interested in correcting it. Then other people blindly copy and recopy the same junk over and over....... So--to thine own self be true!!! Jean

    3. be careful though people. I went in looking around and found an old 2002 posting declaring the parents of one man that is not correct. I have since been talking to said person just recently on that very subject. He is stating the parents of this one guy are someone that is not. I think we are all guilty of using other's work that is not correct. That is how things get passed along that are so very incorrect. Just because its free or just because you have to pay for it doesn't make it real unless you get it straight from the horses mouth...... court houses, etc. Janean ----- Original Message ----- From: <familyhx3@rcn.com> To: <PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 16, 2006 3:51 PM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] www gencircles com > Shirley....thanks so much for letting us know about the free > access.
