I have my scroll bars too. BUT that actual image itself comes up contained within an Ancestry window. If I click within the window, right on the image all it does is zoom in/out but only so far. If I scroll it only scrolls the entire Ancestry page not the image itself. I think this is a PLOY again of Ancestry..... to tease you - to show you there IS an image and c'mon purchase an account with us........ c'mon you know you are dying to see this entire image..... I've seen their tricks...Unless someone can prove me wrong. I think that this is what they are doing with the 3 free days. ----- Original Message ----- From: <cricri88@aol.com> To: <PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 23, 2006 1:13 PM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] 1930census free 3 days > What size screen resolution do you have on the monitor? The regular census on the site is faster - really faster. This a special promotion thing they set up - and the search is totally different than the regular search on the site - which doesn't require flash or anything. But, that I can find, there's no "free for 3 days" on the regular search - just on this special one that they set up to promote the census completion. You could do a regular 14 day free trial - and access the regular search on the site (as well as the rest of ancestry), but then it will ask you for your credit card and will bill your credit card at the end of 14 days if you don't call and cancel. -----Original Message----- From: ewintr <ewintr@yahoo.com> To: PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 23 Jun 2006 10:02:04 -0700 (PDT) Subject: RE: [PALANCAS] 1930census free 3 days --- ewintr <ewintr@yahoo.com> wrote: > Hello, > > Thank you for the reply. Greetings, The link which takes you to the census is a link to Ancestry's new census site. And you will need Flash Player to view it, no matter whether you access it through this site or through Ancestry's site directly. The "program" which runs the site is Flash Player. It's a safe download and doesn't take very long, even on dial-up. Sorry for the bad news. Linda

Ahhhh....this makes more sense....a 'special' viewing. It just didn't make sense that Ancestry would have switched to such a specific, specialized format that so many people would have trouble using. Many of my ancestors moved to Indiana or Illinois also. I've read that some reasons people moved westward were to start a new church or to have access to land. Many of my Newcomer ancestors stayed in PA. Many moved westward. It seemed that many of the offspring named their children with the same first names. I've been mislead on my Newcomer branch, but I continually look back to family information or census records that I know for certain are my ancestors. The digitized Columbia Spy is in conjunction with the Lancaster County Historical Society and, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, the Pennsylvania State Historical Society. A number of state historical societies (or other similar groups) are beginning to digitize some old newspapers and put them online. Pretty hit and miss, though. Joan S. P.S. The Lancaster County Historical Society has an excellent museum & archives.
