    3. Dear Maria, Thank you very much. Anything helps as you know. Now I'll need to see if there are any published abstracts of these items. You don't happen to know how I can obtain them do you? I also mentioned at the bottom of my note about passenger lists & noticed that it's down far enough that someone might miss that part. I do appreciate what you sent very much. Ellen

    1. Lancaster Wills & Passenger Lists Query
    2. Ellen
    3. If someone on here has an Index to the Will Books & Intestate Records of Lancaster County, PA 1729-1850" by Fulton & Mylin (1936/1994) could you please help me??? I need to have listings for the surname of Mitchell as I'm trying to figure out who the parents are for one Matthew Mitchell who came to the area most likely between 1729 & 1750. He moved on & eventually wound up in Westmoreland County. He appears to have an older brother named Alexander. I believe his other brother is Ebenezer & that he had more brothers. They also moved on. What I'm hoping for is a will of a parent that mentions some of them in it. I also would like to find out where they came from in regard to passenger lists. Matthew may have been born after their arrival here. He served in the Revolutionary War from Westmoreland County. If anyone has information on the arrivals help would be appreciated. I know that Matthew is married by Rev. John Cuthbertson later. Ellen Visit my web site at: http://www.familytreetracer.com <http://www.familytreetracer.com/>

    3. Ah, so HAHNSTOWN, Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, PA finely "made" the listing on the Internet. The United Zion Church was early known, by its Penna. Dutch folks as the GRUMBINE Church, named "after" the early Brother who was "behind the movement" and lived on the farm next to it. Depending who one speaks with, it had "tie,s" with the Brethren In Christ Church, "going back" to the River Brethren Church here in western part of Lancaster Co. Ernest

Appreciatively, Barbara Barbara- No--in Pennsylvania the lands given to those men who qualified based on Revolutionary War service were called "donation lands" and the land was found in the counties of: Armstrong, Butler, Forest, Lawrence, Venango, and Warren as well as all of Crawford and Mercer counties. This area would have all been on the "frontier" at the time and was bounded on the east by the Allegheny River, on the west by the Ohio border, and on the north by the New York border. Joan

    1. Migration to Ohio
    2. Peggy K. Reeves
    3. The migration to Ohio began after the Revolutionary War. The Federal Government allowed 100 acres of bounty land to soldiers of the Continental line. The land was located in the "military district" in Ohio. Soldiers from all of the states were eligible for federal bounty land if they served the required length of time in the Continental Line. This is not to be confused with the bounty land that was issued by the individual states. Many states, including PA, awarded their own bounty land in the western reaches of the state in order to encourage enlistment in their particular state. Some soldiers were eventually eligible for both. Folks sometimes presume that the Mennonites, Quakers, and other pacifists who didn't believe in going to war would not have gotten land in the Military District in Ohio or in the Military District in PA. It must be remembered, though, that soldiers who received bounty land often did not wish to move and settle a new area, and they would sell their warrants to third parties--including pacifists--who then went on to patent land with the soldiers' warrants. 3. My thanks to Ed Wevodau, Jim Ensinger, and Salapano, who responded to my query about the ancestors of Catharina Acker(1754-1831) , wife of Johan Conrad Fasnacht(1751-1809). They added some new info on the family of Leonard Acker of Earl, father of my Catharina. I appreciate receiving the church records, land records, and Orphan's Court proceedings. It seems, however, that there were several other Acker families nearby, including another Leonard Acker, late of Lampeter, deceased prior to 6/6/1766. I will need to proceed carefully in trying to find the parents of Leonard Acker of Earl. Bruce Fosnocht

    1. Re: [PALANCAS] LYONS in Pennsylvania
    2. Joan Bretz
    3. Wade. The Lyons family tracks back to Scotland and through them down to the royal family of Britain - the Queen Mum was a Lyons. There were three brothers who thought better of staying in England at the time they beheaded the king, Charles I or II, and came to the colonies in the 1630s or 1640s. A series of volumes have been written about the Lyons families - one volume covers CT and NJ (one of the brothers moved down as a founder of Elizabeth NJ); one covers NY; and one covers MA. I descend from the one who moved to NJ - I checked my copy of the CT/NJ volume and found no reference to Spencer or Binks. You might try to look at the other volumes at a nearby library or get them through interlibrary loan and see if your people turn up there - my volume goes past the mid 1800s so you may be able to find them. Your folks might have migrated to PA from MA or NY if they come from these folks. I know that I have several lines who migrated from NJ into PA and on to OH. And of course this all presumes that your Lyons family is tied into these three brothers and did not immigrate at a later date. But it might be worth some further research. Happy hunting!
