Hello Janie, This is a very kind offer. Could you please look for the surname Mentzer in the book of Marriages & Deaths. I don't expect there to be more than 1-2. I was visiting the website of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and accidentally found record group RG-14: Records of the Department of Internal Affairs Record of Marriages, 1885-1889. This is a digitized index of marriages across the state of PA for the specified 5 year period. Unfortunately, it does not have a search engine, but if you are willing to page through the images, you may find an elusive marriage record. Separate indexes for brides or grooms and covers the whole state. http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/rg/di/r14-25RecordMarriages/r14-25MainInterface.htm

Avie, Sorry you misunderstood - there are NO listings of burials - no surnames (That is what I hoped for!!) - just brief histories of Churches and Cemeteries - some not in existence for more than a century. I really appreciate the responses from Nancy and Marie. The only thing I have to go on is her name . . . Elizabeth Eyle . . . as it was written in a Baltimore ledger of applications for marriage licenses in 1818 and her obituary as Elizabeth Whittle that gave her age and the fact that she was born in Lancaster Co., Pa. On the death ctf. of one of her sons her name was given as Elizabeth Hall but a fellow researcher said that the German pronunciation for Eyle is gutteral and could be heard as Hall. As you can see, I don't have much to go on and perhaps I'm looking for a needle in a haystack. Thanks for the help and I'll keep what you've sent me on file. Do you have any alternate spellings for EYLE? I did find limited EYLER, IHLE, & IHLER in the records of Trinity Lutheran, Lancaster, but none matching the information you gave. In a quick check of my books I don''t find the surname WHITTLE either. I am new to this list. My husband's g.g.grandmother was Elizabeth (Betsy) EYLE who was born in Lancaster Co. in 1785. Does anyone have any information on her or her family? When she was 33 she married Jeremiah WHITTLE and they lived in Towson, Baltimore Co., Md. where she died in 1877. While JEREMIAH WHITTLE lived in Maryland as did his brother JOHN NELSON WHITTLE, I have never been able to find any record of their births there, which would have been C1774 - 1775. I wonder if perhaps they were also born in Pennsylvania and if anyone might know the names of their parents. Thanks in advance for any help. Ruth Brooks
