Hi, Janie. Thanks ever so much for helping all of us. I have three families that I'll include in three separate emails. The first is Rench/Hamilton. Here's the family to give you some background. Two questions follow: Thomas Henry RENCH b. 7 Mar 1790 in Washington County, Maryland d. 31 Oct 1849 in Franklin County, Indiana m. 1 Oct 1820 Washington County, Maryland to- Jane Hamilton b. 26 Jun 1799 in Pennsylvania d. 11 Dec 1865 in Franklin County, Maryland son, John Henry/H. John RENCH b. 4 Oct 1823 in "Lanchester"/Lancaster County/near Harrisburg County d. 18 Apr 1907 in Calhoun County, Iowa 1. Do you find anything on Jane HAMILTON, who was born in Pennsylvania? Based on the rest of the information, it seems possible she was from Lancaster County PA. 2. Do you find anything on John Henry RENCH, b. 1823? (The birthplace confusion is "received" information.) Thank you, Marilyn
Dear Jane - O my goodness - how wonderful - no better Christmas gift could I get - I am replying with this entire answer just to let others know all the info that you took the time to give me - not to mention the other 4 emails that also contained ancestor info. Thank you again and again and - this is really an "Act of Kindness"...... WOW! I just had to check out the name of Chester A. Mentzer as I read in the description of the cemetery. MENTZER was my mother's maiden name, and I have been doing extensive research on the name trying to connect all the line. So I found out that, the owners now are the grand daughter of the Chester Mentzer. If I can remember right, you did say the owners of the property are Gene and Mary Lowry? The relationship goes back 6 generations to our main descendant. That 6th generation making Mary's 5th great grandfather and my 5th great grandfather were brothers! Interesting! Susan, daughter of Peter Sharp. Aged 8 months. ---------- Description: The Sharp graveyard,--if a tangled mass of briars and weeds may be referred to as a graveyard,--is on the farm of Mrs. Salley Esh, tenanted by her son, David Esh, in Leacock township. It is about a third of a mile northwest of the Christ Protestant Episcopal church, Leacock, and is situated in one of the finest farming sections in Lancaster county [probably Latitude: 40.043715, Longitude: -76.098787]. The graveyard, 20 by 20 feet, is, indeed, a most pathetic sight. It is in a wheat field not far removed from the farm house. It present a picture of neglect and decay in the midst of plenty, for the farm on which it is located is one of the most fertile in Pennsylvania. Of course, the farmer on whose land it is located is not interested in it, as the Sharps are not related to him. Every year he plows around the tangled mass of briars and weeds and so it has gradually grown into an unsightly and almost impenetrable thicket. On May 11, 1935, the time of our visit, there were nine head and two foot stones.
