    1. [PALANCAS] George Burkhholder
    2. Hi-I am trying to locate the parents of George Burkholder. He was born abt.1783-in PA. I have seen undocumented writings that it was in Lancaster Co. and that he was a son of Christian and Anna(Groff) Burkholder. He died 1864 in Lycoming Co. Does anyone know of this man and if in fact he was a son of C & A Burkholder? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Margie

    3. Hi Karl,      I looked into this for an article I did for CAHS on the Urban family for out Conestoga Center Museum display a few years ago but couldn't find an exact date of birth for him.  I didn't check church records because the family were Methodists and I don't believe their church records go back that far.  I don't know where he is buried but you might check the historical society.  His parents are buried at Woodward Hill so he could be there.  I should get an obit on him for our web page.                                                                                                         Jim   ________________________________ From: Karl Moyer <[email protected]> To: Lancaster County-L <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 2, 2009 10:37:40 PM Subject: [PALANCAS] C. 3. Thanks, Barbara and Richard, for throwing light on the subject of insolvencies in 1825. I don't think the asterisks refer to spelling, since they appeared in the newspaper notice itself, not in a transcription. I was rather hoping they would indicate something like an estate instead of a living creditor. Any chance of that? Thanks for throwing more light on the nature of the newspaper notices. 2. Donna Heller Zinn
    3. The Perry Historians is hosting its annual FREE Beginner Genealogical Workshop at the Harry Lenig Library outside of New Bloomfield, Perry Co., PA. on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. We're also going to be hosting a FREE Advanced Genealogical Workshop at the library on Saturday, April 4th also from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. Both of these workshops are FREE and there will probably be plenty of time after the workshop to utilize the records and resources in our library for researching your families. Please note that on both days, we will take a lunch break - with lunch on your own. There are several restaurants in the area or you may brown-bag-it. We would just ask that you let us know if you are planning on attending so that we may make sure we have enough handout copies available - if we use them. You may contact me, if you have questions or would like to be included in the count. Donna Heller Zinn [email protected]

    1. [PALANCAS] Sheriff sales then and today
    2. Susan: Sheriff sales were pretty common, then as they are getting to be?today.? And they were pretty routinely repoted in the newspapers at the time of year when the delinquent property taxes were processed.? I think they were often due to unpaid / delinquent property taxes, but if someone had other personal debts an unpaid creditor or group of creditors might get the sheriff to initiate? foreclosure on a debtor to get some compensation out of their unpaid debt.? Hence, and correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone appears in the sheriff's sale list they could have been without real property too, i.e. a renter or roomer in a relative's home. Richard

Have no proof that Jacob DONNER / TANNER / DOWNER of Lampeter Twp, Lancaster Co PA married neighbor-girl Anna LANDIS, dau of Felix and Rosanna LANDIS, but other researchers say so without giving sources. Since Jacob was b. 1698 in Rottenacker, west of Ulm on the Donau (per canadian DONNER website), Anna LANDIS was b. abt 1705. No one says when she died. He remarried Elisabeth WOLSCHLEGEL / WELESLEGLE of Manheim Tp Lancaster Co PA before January 1753 when they show in a deed buying part of her father's land in Manheim Twp (Deed Book C-508). Elisabeth's parents Johannes WOLSCHLAGER and wife Margaretha have 4 children recorded in church book of Lambsheim in the Palatinate; they were said to live in Weisenheim am Sand, where the church book has serious gaps. Elisabeth must have immigrated with them on the ship Globe in 1723. Elisabeth's mother Anna WELESLEGEL wrote her will 9 July 1761, probated 7 Jan 1772; she named one 'child': Jacob DOWNER, plus 7 grandchildren named DOWNER -- Jacob, Catharine, John, Joseph, Susanna, Jonathan, and Jonas. This suggests that Elisabeth was already dead. There is no way of knowing how many of Jacob DONNER's children were born to his first wife, Anna LANDIS, vs. his 2nd wife, Elisabeth WOLSCHLEGEL. If George DONNER was b. Feb 1752, he could have been a son of the Jacob who was son of Jacob.
