Debbie: Thanks for the Abraham Sweigart lookup.? What you found helped disprove something for me rather than prove it, which was what I was counting on.? I had a marriage record of over 200 years ago which in recent times was transcribed inaccurately?as "Abraham Sweigart" in the Lancaster records, but which I had thought was a couple from my family groups.? The problem seems to be with transcribing difficult to read script, that sometimes gets permanently transcribed in type into a different surname, or in some cases a surname that never existed. I see that often in census records too. Richard [email protected]>

We need to avoid using the terms "will" and "probate" interchangeably. The two books mentioned contain abstracts of wills, not abstracts of probates. The individual in question may have died intestate, without leaving a will. His estate would still be probated, but there would be no mention of the probate in the two books mentioned. There would, however, be other probate documents such as an inventory and an administrator's account. The Lancaster Co Historical Society can tell you if such documents are available and can make copies for you. They may or may not specify the names of the heirs. There may also be deeds and/or Orphans Court records associated with probating the estate. These are more likely to contain the names of the heirs.

Pam, Bainbridge is not a township or borough, but an unincorporated community. It is found in Conoy Township in Lancaster County in 1860 and 1870 census images at Ancestry. See link for a map of Conoy Twp, ca 1864 from Lancaster County Atlas. http://ancestortracks.com/Lancaster%20Co/Conoy&W-DonegalTwps.jpg That said, I was not able to find the family in 1860 in that Conoy Twp. You may have to search page by page or expand your search to other locations. Good luck. Judy
If the book didn't give a specific date of marriage, the source was probably some other document - such as Casimer's will (Lancaster Will Book Y2: 63; 1784). It could also be based on information found in a deed, an Orphans Court record, or other probate records associated with Casimer's estate. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marcia" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2009 10:57 AM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] Rev War Service-"Committee of Observation" > Are there are lists (and if so where) for the "Committee of Observation" > for > Revolutionary War for Lancaster Co? > > I am specifically looking for Casimer Beyer/Byers Revolutionary service in > the "Committee of Observation". Hi Marci, I've seen lists of the Committee of Observation published in newspapers of the day, there were no Lancaster newspapers at that time so these will be Philadelphia newspapers. Lancaster Listers, I was able to find my ggg-grandparents in the 1850 census of Bainbridge, Lancaster, PA. They were John and Siloame Barnes (indexed as Beams at?Ancestry).?There are no census images of Bainbridge for the 1860 and 1870 census at Ancestry.com. Was there a Bainbridge Twp in 1860 and 1870?? Was the township enumerated in 1860 and 1870? If there was a 1860 and 1870 enumeration of Bainbridge, where can I find an index or images of these censuses?? The 1880 census at Ancestry includes Bainbridge Twp. John Barnes (b. 1826 PA) and Siloame Isaac?(b. 1831 PA) were the parents of Isaac Henry Barnes (b. 1850 Lancaster Co., PA)? Isaac Henry Barnes was in Macon Co., IL in the 1870 census (indexed as Isaac H. Burns).?I have been unable to find this family in the 1860 census.? I am wondering if they were still in Bainbridge in 1860 but there are no images for this township at Ancestry for 1860 to check. Thanks - Pam Hawley
Hi Pam, Bainbridge isn't a Twp. its a village or town in Conoy Twp. Conoy was formed from Donegal Twp. in 1842 so you should be able to find Canoy from 1850 onward. Bainbridge may have appeared on the census because it was the post office for most of Conoy Twp. I'm also looking for the parents of a Catherine DIETRICH/DIETERICH who was from Lancaster County according to her son's death certificate in York County in 1920. The 1860 census shows Catherine as age 30 so I'm assuming her birth year was approximately 1830 in Lancaster County. Catherine married Samuel SMITH of York County and her maiden name is shown as DIETERICH on her son's, (my great-grandfather) baptismal certificate in 1858 at First Moravian Church in York. She's obviously a different Catherine than the one referred to here. Joan In a message dated 3/21/2009 6:16:03 P.M. Was it ever a surprise when I found 9 siblings or half siblings! My thoughts are that she was the only child of one of Henry Dietrich's marriages and she was half sister to all the rest. "My" Catherine's 1850 census states that she was born in PA about 1797. Thank you.
