    1. [PALACKAW] Birth records question
    2. Cheryl
    3. Hi: I have a questions for the listers. Over the years I have ordered numerous birth and death records both before and after 1906 for the state of PA. I just received a response regarding a birth record for 1900. I had all necessary info, birth month, year and parents names. They cannot find the record. The birth was for Carbondale. Has anyone else had this problem? I would assume that Carbondale did not have it's own "records" on file? I have to say I was surprised that no record was available. This request was sent to Scranton. Cheryl

    3. I sure have, but it's my mother, and she was born in Scranton on 9/14/27. The story she's been told is that there was a fire and records were lost. I think that there's a problem with the date she thinks she was born. The 1930 Census shows her as being born in May (and her middle name is May, by the way), but she celebrates her birthday in September. We're going to have a devil of a time getting the new i.d. for her. However, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe someone on this list knows of this supposed fire. That could be the source of your problems. Best wishes, Lynda Jones Bloomsburg, PA _____ . 3. For births from 1893 to 1906, neither Carbondale or Scranton's Board of Health reported their registrations to Lackawanna County. The county registrations are what was reported toi the state for that time period, so the state would not have them either. Scranton's were saved and are available through LDS covering 1878-1905. I am not aware if Carbondale's records are available, but I have not uncovered them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl" <crmoore@localline.com> To: <palackaw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 7:44 PM Subject: [PALACKAW] Birth records question : Hi: : I have a questions for the listers. 3. Thanks Richard. I had a feeling this was going to be the case with some records. Quite some time ago, true or not, I heard that there were some papers/tapes floating around the C'dale library/Historical Society that had not yet seen the light of day. Perhaps a joke, but supposed to have been stored in a "broom closet"? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard M.
