    1. [PALACKAW] John Hoskins, where did you go...
    2. Hoskins
    3. Trying to determine what happened to my gg'grandfather, John Hoskins,a miner, and family after 1860. John and his eldest son James emigrated from England to the States in the spring of 1849.They established a home in Luzerne County, PA. His wife,Elizabeth, followed the next January 1850, with their remaining 4 children.William 17,Gulielma 11,Charles 5 and Elisa 2. James(my g'grandfather) married Sarah Young in 1858, started a family and served in the Civil War, 1862-1865.After the war he returned to West Pittston. The family of John appears in the 1850,1860 census for Providence Twp,Dunmore, Luzerne County,PA.William is missing, possibly being on his own as he came as a laborer. Gulielma is also absent, could have worked as a domestic servant, as per the times.I know Gulielma married circa 1856 to a Reuben Mowrey, and raised a family and staying in Dunmore until her death.Only John and Elizabeth and the two youngest Charles and Elisa appear in the census. I have been told(no proof),by a fellow genealogest in England, that Elizabeth died in England in 1864, and that Elisa married in England in 1872. If that is true, I can't find info as to when they returned, as there does not seem to be records of returning passenger manifests. Also what happened to my gg'grandfather John? Did he die(haven't found any record of)and Elizabeth, then feeling alone, return? Being a miner, they certainly were not rich, what would be the cost to return? Where do I go from here, appreciate any help.
