    1. Re: [PA-LAC] carbondale st rose cemetery
    2. This is something that I would like to know myself. I have ggggrandparents who are said to have been buried in St. Rose's cemetery in Carbondale. I went up to Carbondale on a visit to Scranton several years ago and while I was there, I asked around, but no one was able to tell me where St. Rose's Cemetery was. I even called St. Rose's Catholic Church in Carbondale, but they were not very helpful either. I left Carbondale that year thinking that perhaps the information I had just wasn't accurate, or that St. Rose's Cemetery was so old that there was no one alive who ever heard of it. My ancestors who are said to be buried there go back further than 1900. They go back to 1850's to 1870's . I would love to hear more information on St. Rose's Cemetery in Carbondale if anyone out there has any. Thank You: Sincerely; Mike Cavanaugh, Buffalo, NY

    3. I'm not positive but wasn't St. Rose Cem. at the corner of Belmont & Cannon St. The last time I was in C'dale it seems to me that there was a playground on it now. 3. The current cemetery for St. Rose church in carbondale is called "Mother of Sorrows" and its a few miles outside of town at Finch Hill. I believe it was started sometime in the fifties. Before that St. Rose Cemetery (entrance on Pearl St.) was in use and probably still has a few burials these days. It is a large well kept cemetery and has some old headstones but I'm not sure how far it does go back. Before that there was a St. Rose cemetery on the corner of Belmont and Caanan Sts and that one no longer exists. To reach the St. Rose Cemetery that is in existence, if you approach Carbondale from the Scranton area taking Route 6 N, you will come into Carbondale and cross Main St. Take a right on to S. Main and immediately you are faced with a Y, S. Main is the left branch of the Y, take it up the hill passing 9th & 10th Ave. Brennan and Lunny Cts. S. Main ends at Pearl St. Take a left onto Pearl and proceed a few block up the hill. The entrance to the cemetery is on the left.
