To interested Flynn researchers: this is from Jubilee History Commemorative of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Creation of Lackawanna County Pennsylvania, etc., by Thomas Murphy, Historical Publishing Company,Topeka--Indianapolis, 1928, pp.991-992. Robert J. Flynn, M.D., one of the most popular of the younger physicians and surgeons of Scranton, is a veteran of the World War. He was born in this city, Dec. 9, 1895, a son of John and Catherine (Calpin) Flynn. John Flynn, who is well known in Scranton as a successful merchant, is a native of this city. His wife was also born here. Mr. Flynn is a Democrat and a member of the Catholic Church. To Mr. and Mrs. Flynn the following children were born: Irene, lives at home; Robert J., the subject of this sketch; Walter, lives at home; Mary and Margaret, both teachers, live at home. The early education of Robert J. Flynn was reeceived in the public schools of Scranton. He then took up the study of medicine and in 1916 was graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. He served his interneship at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and the Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, and in October,1917, volunteered for service in the World War. He enlisted in the Medical Corps and was soon promoted to captain and sent to France, where he was attached to the British Expeditionary Forces. He was discharged at Camp Dix, N. J., June 5, 1919. Upon his return to Scranton, Doctor Flynn established offices at 551 Fourth Avenue, where he carries on a large practice. He was formerly surgeon for the fire and police departments of Scranton and is connected with the United States Medical Department in this city. Doctor Flynn is identified with the Lackawanna County Medical Society. He is a Democrat, a member of the Catholic Church, and belongs to the American Legion and Elks Lodge. He is a medical officer of the United States Veterans' Bureau. #####
