A "Bucket Shop" is a sham investment firm that accepts customers trade orders but does not process them through an exchange. It also applied to accepting orders for commodities and of course, it could mean a business that deals in buckets, pails, etc. but the later would not be illegal and there would be no cause to bar their existence.
