It was a good discussion we had on voter's registration, and thanks to all. I had originally asked the question because I can't find my grandfather's SS#, and since he died in 1952 the chances were fairly good he might have had one. I had read that one source of SS# numbers was voter's registrations records. The discouraging news I got was that voter's registration records are held for 5 years, but some might be recorded on microfilm. That sounds like that snowball's chance.... 1952 was 49 years ago. I was reminded that there were voter's registration books in the Scranton Public Library, and they list residents by street. Yes, these are good books, I've used them. However, they do not correspond any residents to SS#. I guess my only chance to get my grandfather's SS application, if he made one, is to search the SS records. Trouble is, I have only the date of death, not birth of SS# info, so that is rather impossible since he's not in the SSDI. These records are not pubicly searchable, I assume.
