Anne, I think what u are suggested is great and long overdue. I am sure many researchers will benefit from the combined efforts. I live in Maryland and try to get to Scranton whenever possible to do my research. Most of my Irish ancestors were Catholic from Co Mayo and their surnames are quite common so out of necessity I am using the vacuum cleaner approach in hopes of narrowing down the SULLIVAN, GERRITY, WALTON, COLEMAN, CUMMINGS, SHEA, etc in my direct line. When the weather is nice and usually early in the morning before the county court house, church offices, etc I try to use my time and walk the various cemeteries. I did not devise a systematic method of walking when I first started but I did decide to copy any tombstones that had info re birth, death dates, those with places of birth and any unique tombstones that I came across figuring somewhere along the line there will be a fellow researcher looking for the info. I have walk Cathedral cemetery a couple of times, St. Mary's Cemetery in Dunmore,( I have not walked the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore ..Yet;) I have also walked St. Joseph's in Minooka, St. Mary's in Ledgedale, Queen of Peace in Hawley, St. Catherine in Moscow and the IHM Catholic Nuns plots in St. Catherine's in Moscow; St. Rose of Lima in Carbondale. Needless to say the data is only Partial of the cemeteries involved and there is much to be done. My posting of Cathedral contains approximately 600 entries. I have posted them to the Pennsylvania Tombstone Transcription Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/pennsylvania/index_lackawanna.html and to Lisa Carey at http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawayne/ and Alaine Keisling at http://www.geocities.com/chezalaine/genealogy/records/cem-cathedral.html I have also provided the information to our good friend Joe BRYER of the GRSNP. Anne, I think the effort is a very worthwhile effort and I will gladly help in anyway that I can. Go for it Regards, Walt Walton J. Maybe your good friend Joe Bryer can give us a software program to enter all the data with. Can you approach him on it. I used to be a data entry person with GRSNP (and am still a member). All I entered were directory entries. Bob Walsh WSULLIVW@aol.com wrote: > Anne, > > I think what u are suggested is great and long overdue.
