I have a few marriage cert. where the offical performing the ceremony was Rev. J. M. Smoulter. Does anyone know which chuch he was stationed?
Lenora, My guess is that Rev. John Smoulter is at a Catholic Church. The 1930 census lists him as pastor, single, age 65, 507 Broadway. At the same address is an assistant pastor & 2 ladies listed as servants -- typically a housekeeper & a cook. Someone more familiar with this address might know what church was/is at that address. Smoulter, James M. Rev. Roman Catholic about 1903 to Jan. 16,1922 St. James Jessup, PA transfer announced 01/11/1922 Jan. 17, 1922, to sometime after Feb. 1927 Holy Cross, Fifth Ave cnr Broadway (507 Broadway), Bellvue Scranton, PA Source material is from Scranton newspapers and city directories. After 1928, R. L. Polk listed the churches and clergymen's names seperately, but a Rev. John M. Smoulter appears at 507 Broadway, which would be Holy Cross, in 1928, 1930, 1932, and 1935. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lenora Mulock" <brennajne2@sbcglobal.net> To: <PALACKAW@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 30, 2007 11:21 AM Subject: [PALACKAW] Rev.
