The movie was called "The Molly McGuires." It came out around 1970 and starred Richard Harris and Sean Connery. (I guess they liked to have Connery play Irishmen (The Untouchables was another case) because they figured the audience couldn't tell the difference between and Irish brogue and a Scottish burr.) Those with interest in the topic might want to read "Making Sense of the Molly McGuires" by Kevin Kenny. The book takes sort of a middle ground, suggesting that they were neither the vast terrorist conspiracy suggested by some nor the romantic martyrs suggested by others. It also looks at the deeper issue of the conditions in the mines at the time.
