Hi, I wanted everyone to know that I did receive an SS5 on my g grandfathers brother even though he was not listed on the Social Security Death Index. I found his number on his death certificate. I wrote a letter to Social Security using that number and included his death certificate with along with it. It took about 7 weeks. He was not on the Social Security death index because he died in 1843. He applied for his Social Security number in 1936. His SS5 had information that his death certificate lacked because he filled it out himself. His children did not know his mothers maiden name and did not put his date of birth on the death certificate. Hope this information is useful to someone else. Carol
