    3. Hi Donna My family is also from Hyde Park. Many were miners. There was a shaft for the Pa Coal Company towards the Keyser Ave. at the end of Jackson St. Very long ago ca: 1885-90 there was a "toll gate" at the end of Jackson Street what would be about 2700 Jackson. When my father was small, the family lived at 15th Ave. at the corner of Fellows Street, toward the West Mountain you could see the breaker. The "field" is now covered with homes and the West Scranton (Jr?) HS. There was also the Oxford Mine. I think this mine was around what is now Main Ave. at around Lafayette. I'm not too sure on that.
