    3. Dear List On a recent trip to Washburn, I uncovered the headstone of my gg gf John Harries (Harris) with a lot of help from one Iva Hanlon. He died at the Avondale Mine Disaster in 1869. Now I have uncovered a series of new questions. The stone shows a distinct "star" placed above the decease's name and a Welsh inscription below. Any idea what this star may have meant? Surrounding the stone, which was broken and difficult to read, were fairly recently placed hosta plants. They encircle the stone. This in itself is not strange, but I don't know of many family members still in the Scranton area. Apparently there is at least one. John Harris had 4 children. One daughter, Mary Ann, I know nothing about. My ggf, Morgan Harris, was his only son. I have no Harris relatives in Scranton. He had two daughters, Elizabeth who married Thomas Hughes and Jane who married John Matthews. They lived on Hyde Park Ave. I know there were two gsons (?) Ralph and Art(Hughes) One more possibility is that his widow married again, their name was Morgan and Houck. Does anyone have a connection to these names? Does anyone have a connection to HUGHES or MATTHEWS or their descendants in the Hyde Park section of Scranton. Perhaps I have cousins that care enough about this grave, I never knew I had.
