Mrs. Margaret R. Hughes, aged 71 years, a well-known widow, residing with her daughter, Mrs. Thomas W. PHILLIPS of South Main avenue, narrowly escaped death last evening by being run down by a Taylor-Laurel Hill car. etc The work of laying double tracks along South main avenue, from Washburn to Luzerne strreets has so far been completed that cars are now running through to their destination in Taylor, Eyon street and Luzerne street. Mr. Edward MORSE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morse of Jackson street, a well-known football player and athlete, was taken suddenly and seriously ill on Saturday at his home. etc. The funeral for Mrs. James THOMAS at the home was conducted by Rev. D.D. HOPKINS, pastor of the First Welsh Baptist Church and Rev. D. C. PHILLIPS pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church,Taylor. Pall bearers were: Messrs. David Jones, Reese C. Powell, D. C. Powell, John Morgan. On Friday evening at 7:30, Rev. John Pugh, an able evangelist of Caerdydd, South Wales, will occupy the pulpit of the Bellevue Welsh C.M. church. The Rev. Mr. Pugh .....will preach in Welsh to his many friends of this section before his return to his native country. Sept. 21 -- The Breaker Boys went on strike against D & H. Mrs. Robert CARDEN of Brownsville lies in a critical condition with an attack of typhoid fever. Mr. John NALLEY of Trenton, N. J. is spending a few weeks at the home of his father in Avoca. He was called here last Saturday on account of the death of his brother William.
